Effect of β-hydroxybutyrate acid on gene expression levels of antioxidant biomarkers and growth hormone–related genes in liver cell culture

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research
In dairy cattle, oxidative stress is a predominant problem associated with diseases and reproductive health issues. This study aimed to detect the variation in the antioxidant biomarkers by adding different concentrations of β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA ...

Efficacy evaluation of a commercially available MCT enriched therapeutic diet on dogs with idiopathic epilepsy treated with zonisamide: a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover dietary preliminary study

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2023
Background Idiopathic epilepsy (IE) is a common, chronic brain dysfunction in dogs. Recently, the effect of feeding a diet enriched with medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) on seizure frequency has been evaluated in several studies in dogs with IE. However,

Maternal nutrition as a key determinant of placental and developing blood–brain barrier xenobiotic protective functions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Suboptimal maternal nutrition alters placental and developing blood–brain barrier (BBB) protective function and is associated with increased fetal brain vulnerability. In the placenta, nutritional adversity may reduce the exchange surface area and promote meta‐inflammation, compromising barrier efficiency in a model‐ and context ...

Metabolic Assessment in Human Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Cerebral Organoids Using HR‐MAS NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2026.
We present a direct method for evaluating metabolism in intact hPSC‐derived cerebral organoids (COs) via HR‐MAS 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. This approach suggests that COs exhibit a metabolic profile similar to in vivo human fetal brain, with high levels of lactate and hTau, low levels of NAA, and equimolar levels of Glu and Gln.

DADA improves blood glucose, lactate, β-hydroxybutyric acid, free fatty acids and ATP levels.

open access: yes, 2014
Mice infected with 120 and 200 pfu of IAV were treated with oral DADA at 50 mg/kg or vehicle at 12-h intervals and the levels of glucose, lactate, free fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyric acid, and ATP in the blood were analyzed at day 7 post-infection. Values

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Patients With Mitochondrial Carbonic Anhydrase VA Deficiency. A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesJIMD Reports, Volume 67, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase VA (CA‐VA) deficiency is a rare inherited metabolic disorder caused by biallelic variants of the CA5A gene. It presents with hyperammonemia, lactic acidosis, and ketonuria, with or without hypoglycemia. We report the long‐term follow‐up of the first two reported cases of CA‐VA deficiency: a 16‐year‐old female ...

Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid and growth hormone secretion: Studies in rats and dogs

open access: yes, 2000
Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, a gamma-aminobutyric acid metabolite, and baclofen, a gamma-aminobutyric acid B agonist, are endowed with a small growth hormone-releasing activity in human beings.
