open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao, 2007

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao, 2022

Sign Language as “Mother Tongue Orphan”: A Challenge to Raciolinguistic Multiculturalism in Singapore

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 127, Issue 3, Page 517-528, September 2025.
ABSTRACT This article examines the contested status of “sign language” in Singapore by exploring deaf people's experiences of the “Mother Tongues”—the state's designation for the official languages of Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil—with a particular focus on the relationships that deaf Chinese Singaporeans have with Mandarin.

Effect of uneven tolerance to human disturbance on dominance interactions of top predators

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Anthropogenic activities may alter felid assemblage structure, facilitating the persistence of tolerant species (commonly mesopredators), excluding ecologically demanding ones (top predators) and, consequently, changing coexistence rules. We aimed to determine how human activities influence intraguild relationships among top predators and ...

Indian Pangolin in Lamjung Requires Urgent Attention

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 2, Issue 4, Page 204-213, December 2024.
This study documented the first evidence of the Indian pangolin in Lamjung district, Nepal, finding three burrows and rescue evidence in Simalchaur Naringhat Community Forest. The burrows identified at an elevation of 530 m and characterized by moderate crown and ground cover (26%–50%), a 25° slope, and predominantly red soil, are indicative of a ...

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao, 2019

open access: yesDizhen xuebao, 2022

Patterns of recovery in extant and extirpated seabirds after the world's largest multipredator eradication

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract Eradicating invasive predators from islands can result in substantial recovery of seabirds, but the mechanisms that drive population changes remain poorly understood. Meta‐analyses have recently revealed that immigration is surprisingly important to the recovery of philopatric seabirds, but it is not known whether dispersal and philopatry ...

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao, 2008

Understanding consumers to inform market interventions for Singapore's shark fin trade

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 6, Issue 2, Page 733-748, April 2024.
Abstract Sharks, rays and their cartilaginous relatives (Class Chondrichthyes, herein ‘sharks’) are among the world's most threatened species groups, primarily due to overfishing, which in turn is driven by complex market forces including demand for fins.
