Soil Hydrothermal Characteristics of Orchard Based on Leaf Area Index Coupled with STEMMUS Model [PDF]
[Objective] As a key parameter in the simulation study of ecosystem water cycle process, rapid dynamic simulation of leaf area index (LAI) can solve the limitation that the coupled soil water-vapor-heat-air model STEMMUS (simultaneous transfer of energy,

Summary Fine roots are critical for soil resource uptake, yet how declining plant diversity alters fine root biomass (RB) and traits remains unclear. We tested how plant functional trait dissimilarity in shade tolerance, drought tolerance, growth rate, and nitrogen‐fixation ability drives variation in root attributes.

Passing on the red genes: Communism nostalgia in online fictions and ideological governance in China
Abstract How does communism as an ideology fare in the post‐reform digital age China? What are the implications for China's ideological governance? Through online ethnographic work and text analysis, this paper identifies and analyzes how communism as an ideation and a practice is (re)memorized, (re)presented, and (re)interpreted in popular online ...

Strategies of high efficiency water usage promoted by microbial remediation in coal mining areas of western China [PDF]
The fragile ecological environment in the western coal mining areas of China, compounded by intensive mining activities, has led to water and soil erosion, soil degradation, and damaged root systems.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract In the Southwest Australian Biodiversity Hotspot, the greatest plant species diversity tends to occur on the most phosphorus (P)‐impoverished soils. Many plant species in this P‐impoverished environment release root carboxylates that mobilise soil P which is a more ...

Summary Repetitive DNA is a feature of all organisms, ranging from archaea and plants to humans. DNA repeats can be seen both in coding and in noncoding regions of the genome. Due to the recurring nature of the sequences, simple DNA repeats tend to be more prone to errors during replication and repair, resulting in variability in their unit length ...

Ultraviolet radiation protection factors of livestock shade cloths for free‐range pigs
Background – Protection from solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is paramount in light‐skinned pig breeds such as Yorkshire or Landrace to avoid sunburn. Objectives – Determination of the UVR exposure of a pig and the sun protection abilities of shade cloths with different shade rates.
