Four challenges to an effective national nature assessment
Abstract Comprehensive biodiversity assessments play an essential role in strengthening global and national conservation strategies. The recently announced first U.S. National Nature Assessment (NNA) provides an unparalleled opportunity to comprehensively review status and trends of biodiversity at all levels.

Benefits derived from leisure and recreational, and wildlife cultural ecosystem services (CES) were predominantly safeguarded by nature reserves. In contrast, folk and custom CES and spiritual and religious CES were less reliant on these reserves due to intrinsic community‐based protection. Abstract Cultural ecosystem services (CES) play a pivotal role

Rapid assessment of insect pollination services to inform decision‐making
Abstract Pollinator declines have prompted efforts to assess how land‐use change affects insect pollinators and pollination services in agricultural landscapes. Yet many tools to measure insect pollination services require substantial landscape‐scale data and technical expertise.

Tropical and subtropical Asia's valued tree species under threat
Abstract Tree diversity in Asia's tropical and subtropical forests is central to nature‐based solutions. Species vulnerability to multiple threats, which affect provision of ecosystem services, is poorly understood. We conducted a region‐wide, spatially explicit assessment of the vulnerability of 63 socioeconomically important tree species to ...

Pollinator monitoring more than pays for itself
We evaluated the full costs of running pollinator monitoring schemes against the economic benefits to research and society they provide. The annual costs of monitoring are <0.02% of the economic value of pollination services that would be lost after a 30% decline in pollination services.

Effects of Land Use Change on Imbalance in Ecosystem Services:A Case Study of Laizhou Bay Coastal Zone [PDF]
