Abnormal 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D metabolism in preeclampsia
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1992We previously reported that preeclampsia is associated with hypocalciuria (N Engl J Med 1987; 316:715). The purpose of this study was to determine whether alterations in calcium regulatory hormones are present in preeclampsia and, if so, whether they are responsible for hypocalciuria.

A-ring analogs of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2012The growing interest in1α,25(OH)(2)D(3), the hormonally active form of vitamin D(3), has prompted numerous efforts to synthesize vitamin D analogs as potential therapeutic agents, and some of these are already on the market and in clinical development.

Hereditary Resistance to 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D
1984Publisher Summary This chapter presents a mechanism of certain Vitamin D disorders. Vitamin D is produced from cholesterol-like precursors by radiation-induced opening of the B-ring. The open ring classifies the calciferols as secosteroids. Vitamin D3 is produced from 7-dehydro-cholesterol in epidermis, and vitamin D2 is a synthetic product derived ...

1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D resistance, rickets, and alopecia
The American Journal of Medicine, 1984Two unrelated kindreds with four affected children having 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D resistance, rickets, and alopecia are described. The children exhibited early onset of severe rickets with hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, elevated serum alkaline phosphatase levels, and secondary hyperparathyroidism.

1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin-D-Receptor in Breast Cancer Cells.
Lancet, The, 1979A specific receptor for 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D has been demonstrated in a cultured human breast cancer cell line. This is the first such demonstration in any cancer cell. It may explain the high incidence of metastatic bone destruction and hypercalcaemia in this common malignancy, and the limited success of other steroid-receptor assays in predicting ...

Mode of action of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D
Nutrition Research, 1993Abstract This article reviews the recent advances in our understanding of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D in chronic renal insufficiency. The history, metabolism, gene expression, and extrarenal production are discussed, as well as the advent of a new analogue that does not cause hypercalcemia, and the recent long-term study of the efficacy of 1-α ...

Hereditary 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D-Resistant Rickets
2003Abstract Multiple different mutations in various domains along the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene are the basis of hereditary 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin -resistant rickets (HVDRR), also known as vitamin D-dependent rickets type II. HVDRR is characterized by early onset hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism and elevated serum 1,25(OH)2D concentrations
