The Metabolism of 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3*
Endocrine Reviews, 1980VITAMIN D plays a major role in the maintenance of extracellular fluid calcium and phosphorus concentrations, the mineralization of bone, and the maintenance of skeletal integrity (1–3). The vitamin increases active calcium and phosphorus transport in the duodenum and proximal intestine; rachitic animals and humans have increased feeal losses of ...

A Familial Syndrome of Decrease in Sensitivity to 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D*
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1978Typical features of hereditary vitamin D-dependent (pseudovitamin D-deficient) rickets were observed beginning at ages 20 and 5 months in a brother and sister. Both had calcium malabsorption correctable with high doses of 25-hydroxyvitamin D. During periods of hypocalcemia they both manifested secondary hyperparathyroidism with hypophosphatemia and ...

1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D Synthesis in Rat Liver Microsomes
Hormone and Metabolic Research, 1995Previous studies from our laboratory have shown 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3] production by rat liver homogenates and a low affinity of the hepatic enzyme for 25-hydroxyvitamin D3. Because the liver microsomal vitamin D-25-hydroxylase is the main source of systemic 25(OH)D3, we examined the subcellular location and the kinetics of liver 1,25 ...

Heparin-induced inhibition of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D formation
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1984vise intrauterine transfusion because of the suspicion that normal clearance of the amniotic fluid bilirubin may be impeded by the presence of duodenal atresia, which keeps amniotic fluid bilirubin high. This theory has been previously published without case studies.’ Sources of error in amniotic fluid spectrophotometry included blood, maternal or ...

PLASMA 1,25-DIHYDROXYVITAMIN D LEVELS IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Acta Endocrinologica, 1979ABSTRACT Plasma concentrations of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25–(OH)2D), serum prolactin and serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) were followed during pregnancy and lactation in 16 women. High 1,25–(OH)2D was demonstrated in human pregnancy and lactation.

Hypercalcemia and abnormal 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D concentrations in leprosy
The American Journal of Medicine, 1988Two patients with lepromatous leprosy and hypercalcemia are presented. Serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone and urinary cyclic adenosine monophosphate concentrations were suppressed. Serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25-(OH)2D] concentrations were elevated in one patient and normal in the other.

Normal serum concentrations of 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D in osteoporosis
Clinical Rheumatology, 1990With the aim of evaluating the role of 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis, this hormone was studied in 90 subjects. They were divided into three groups: the first group consisted of 30 normal female subjects (aged 30 to 45); the second group comprised 30 elderly female subjects (aged 67 to 90) the third group consisted of ...

SUMMARYThe changes in three different indices of 1,25‐dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) biological activity were studied longitudinally in 35 women during late pregnancy and lactation and in 26 control women. Measurements were made of maternal serum total 1,25(OH)2D and free 1,25(OH)2D concentration (by centrifugal ultrafiltration) and the free 1,25(OH ...
