Panax ginseng and its ginsenosides: potential candidates for the prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced side effects

open access: yesJournal of Ginseng Research, 2021
Chemotherapy-induced side effects affect the quality of life and efficacy of treatment of cancer patients. Current approaches for treating the side effects of chemotherapy are poorly effective and may cause numerous harmful side effects.

Selectins and chemokines use shared and distinct signals to activate β2 integrins in neutrophils

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2018
: Rolling neutrophils receive signals while engaging P- and E-selectin and chemokines on inflamed endothelium. Selectin signaling activates β2 integrins to slow rolling velocities. Chemokine signaling activates β2 integrins to cause arrest.

Identification of novel regulators of STAT3 activity.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
STAT3 mediates signalling downstream of cytokine and growth factor receptors where it acts as a transcription factor for its target genes, including oncogenes and cell survival regulating genes.

Exendin-4 reduces food intake via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in the hypothalamus

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Exendin-4 (EX-4), a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, has been shown to reduce food intake and to increase proopiomelanocortin (POMC) gene expression in the hypothalamus. In this study, we examined the potential neural mechanisms by which

Activation of COUP-TFI by a Novel Diindolylmethane Derivative

open access: yesCells, 2019
Chicken ovalbumin upstream promoter-transcription factor I (COUP-TFI) is an orphan receptor and member of the nuclear receptor superfamily. Among a series of methylene substituted diindolylmethanes (C-DIMs) containing substituted phenyl and ...

DPHB, a diarylheptane from Alpinia officinarum Hance, ameliorates insulin resistance: A network pharmacology and in vitro study

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
(4E)-7-(4-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenylhept-4-en-3-one (DPHB) derived from A. officinarum Hance has been reported to exert anti-inflammatory and anti-insulin resistance (IR) effects. We explored the molecular mechanism of DPHB ameliorating IR through

Pck2 association with the plasma membrane and efficient response of the cell integrity pathway require regulation of PI4P homeostasis by exomer

open access: yesOpen Biology
Exomer is a protein complex that facilitates trafficking between the Golgi and the plasma membrane (PM). Schizosaccharomyces pombe exomer is composed of Cfr1 and Bch1, and we have found that full activation of the cell integrity pathway (CIP) in response

Discovery of a small molecule agonist of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase p110α that reactivates latent HIV-1. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) can effectively suppress HIV-1 replication, but the latent viral reservoir in resting memory CD4(+) T cells is impervious to cART and represents a major barrier to curing HIV-1 infection.

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.
