Virtual hand: a 3D tactile interface to virtual environments
SPIE Proceedings, 2008We introduce a novel system that allows users to experience the sensation of touch in a computer graphics environment. In this system, the user places his/her hand on an array of pins, which is moved about space on a 6 degree-of-freedom robot arm. The surface of the pins defines a surface in the virtual world.

Shared 3D environments within a virtual prototyping environment
Proceedings of WET ICE '96. IEEE 5th Workshop on Enabling Technologies; Infrastucture for Collaborative Enterprises, 1996The goal of the Virtual Prototyping Environment (VPE) is to decrease product development time and costs and to increase quality and flexibility by providing continuous computer support for the development cycle. Virtual prototypes are directly derived from integrated CAD systems, enriched with simulation data.

Crowd Simulation in 3D Virtual Environments
2016Realistic animation of agents’ activities in a 3D virtual environment has many useful applications, for examples, creative industries, urban planning, military simulation and disaster management. It is tedious to manually pre-program each agent’s actions, its interactions with other agents and with the environment. Simulation is a good approach in this

A Virtual Environment for 3D Facial Makeup
2007We simulate the application of facial makeup in 3D by means of multi-sensory interaction which integrates a haptic interface with stereo visual perception. We aim to allow a user to simulate the facial makeup within an immersive virtual environment.

Annotation authoring in collaborative 3D virtual environments
Proceedings of the 2005 international conference on Augmented tele-existence - ICAT '05, 2005To be generally useful for collaborative research and learning, immersive virtual 3D spaces must include intuitive content creation and annotation tools. We describe some initial work to enhance one such environment (Croquet) for use in a broad range of collaborative applications.

Role play in 3D virtual environments
2005Researchers are beginning to explore the role of digital design collaboration within multi-user 3D virtual environments. In the latest installment of an ongoing remote digital design collaboration project with the Sydney University Key Centre of Design Computing and Cognition (KCDC), the University of Queensland Information Environments Program (IEP ...

Creating virtual environments with 3D printing and photogrammetry
SIGGRAPH ASIA 2016 Creating Virtual Environments, 2016Digitizing the physical world through photogrammetry and 3d scanning has nowadays become part of our common vernacular in the creation of 3D virtual environments. However, it is near equally common for these technologies to be employed at the expense of design.

Point and go: Exploring 3D virtual environments
2012 IEEE Symposium on 3D User Interfaces (3DUI), 2012This paper presents our solution to solve the challenge presented at the 3DUI 2012 Contest. The challenge consisted of assisted collaborative navigation in a 3D environment. One user (called power user) has a global view of the 3D environment; alternatively, the other user (called explorer) has a first person view of the environment.

An experimentation environment for mobile 3D and virtual reality
Proceedings of the 15th international conference on Human-computer interaction with mobile devices and services, 2013Unlike desktop screens, mobile devices can be moved around freely. This allows us to create different experiences when exploring 3D data and virtual environments on such handhelds. Yet, this additional degree of freedom not only introduces exciting new possibilities, but also potential issues when used in actual applications.

3D Virtual Learning Environments
2016Heated debates involving reforms in the educational system are becoming more and more frequent in recent years, mostly due to the increasingly evident shortcomings in the educational system and its difficulties to evolve at the same pace as technological development. Since nowadays people spend much of their time interacting directly or indirectly with
