Cross-resistance of trichomonads to 5-nitroimidazole-derivatives
Experientia, 1976The strainT. foetus KV 1/M 100, a sub-strain ofT. foetus Kv 1, was made highly resistant to metronidazole by several passages in mice under increasing drug pressure. This drug resistance was accompained by a remarkable cross-resistance to all 5-nitroimidazole-derivatives tested in vitro and in vivo.

Radiosensitization by Metal Complexes of 4(5)-nitroimidazole
International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1990Four closely-related cis-platinum (Pt) complexes of 4(5)-nitroimidazole have been examined with respect to properties of radiobiological interest, to test the hypothesis that targeting a nitroimidazole (NO2Im) to DNA could enhance its radiosensitizing ability: I [PtCl2(5-NO2Im)2]; II [PtCl2(4-NO2Im)2]; III [PtCl2(NH3)(5-NO2Im)]; IV [PtCl2(NH3)(4-NO2Im)]

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2012
The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of 1,2-dimethyl-5-nitroimidazole and 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole have been recorded in the regions 4000-400 and 4000-100 cm(-1), respectively. The conformational analyses were performed and the energies of the different possible conformers were determined.

Mammalian spot test with moxnidazole, a 5-nitroimidazole
Experientia, 1978Moxnidazole [3-(5-nitrol-1-methyl-2-imidazolyl)-methyleneamino-5-morpholinomethyl-2-oxazolidinone, HCl], known to be mutagenic in microbial tests and Drosophila, induced genetic alterations in somatic cells of mice. Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) served as positive control.

Genetics of Resistance of Bacteroides Species to 5-Nitroimidazole
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1993Thirty-three clinical isolates of Bacteroides strains with a moderate-to-high level of resistance to 5-nitroimidazole were compared with three strains previously studied by Southern blotting of their DNA. Whether plasmid-borne or chromosomally determined, all genetic determinants that are resistant to 5-nitroimidazole belong to two hybridization groups.

Transferable 5-Nitroimidazole resistance in the Bacteroides fragilis group
Plasmid, 1989We report the characterization of a strain of Bacteroides vulgatus, BV17, that exhibits a moderate resistance to 5-nitroimidazoles and carries plasmids of 4.5, 5, 7.7, and 56 kb. A genetic determinant involved in this resistance is carried by the 7.7 +/- 0.2-kb plasmid (pIP417).

Lowering of 5-nitroimidazole's mutagenicity: Towards optimal antiparasitic pharmacophore
European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2009To improve the antiparasitic pharmacophore, 20 5-nitroimidazoles bearing an arylsulfonylmethyl group were prepared from commercial imidazoles. The antiparasitic activity of these molecules was assessed against Trichomonas vaginalis, the in vitro cytotoxicity was evaluated on human monocytes and the mutagenicity was determined by the Salmonella ...
