Trichomoniasis refractory to 5-nitroimidazole therapy in Trinidad

Tropical Doctor, 2022
Trichomoniasis is the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infection (STI) occurring worldwide and the majority of infected persons (70–85%) have mild or no genital symptoms. Symptoms in women may include a vaginal discharge which may be associated with vulval irritation and most infections can be effectively treated with metronidazole 500mg bd ...

RM and log P values of 5-nitroimidazoles

Journal of Chromatography A, 1981
Abstract The chromatographic RM values of a series of nitroimidazoles and their log P values were determined in view of a study of their structure-activity relationships as mutagenic agents. The equations describing the relationship between RM and log P values show a low correlation coefficient.

Radiosensitization by Quaternary Salts of 5-nitroimidazole Derivatives

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1989
The radiosensitizing effects of five newly synthesized quaternary salts of 5-nitroimidazole derivatives on the survival of TC-SV40 mammalian cells have been measured. A toxicity study was carried out in order to determine the concentrations to be used in the radiosensitizing experiments.

Nitrosoimidazoles: highly bactericidal analogs of 5-nitroimidazole drugs

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1988
It is believed that metronidazole and related 5-nitroimidazoles are activated by reduction of the nitro group and that the active species has a nitrogen functionality of intermediate oxidation state. However, the preparation and isolation of the active forms of the 5-nitroimidazoles used therapeutically have proven elusive.

Diffuse alveolar haemorrhage due to 5‐nitroimidazole treatment

Respirology, 2009
ABSTRACTDiffuse alveolar haemorrhage (DAH) is indicated by the presence of red blood cells, fibrin and haemosiderin deposits in the lung parenchyma. We present a case of DAH in a 25‐year‐old male following 5‐nitroimidazole treatment. The first episode of haemoptysis occurred following metronidazole treatment 10 months previously.
