6-Hydroxydopamine therapy in glaucoma.

Transactions. Section on Ophthalmology. American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, 1977
At the inception of this study, 6-hydroxydopamine (6-HD) was administered to 137 eyes of 100 glaucoma patients by subconjunctival injection (27 applications) and later by iontophoresis (202 applications). Eighty-four patients were receiving maximum medical therapy, and 24 had had previous glaucoma surgery. Seventy-seven had primary open-angle glaucoma.

The effect of 6-hydroxydopamine on the antinociceptive action of oxotremorine

Psychopharmacology, 1981
Mice received intraventricular 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) to deplete brain noradrenaline (NA) and dopamine (DA). 6-OHDA reduced the reaction time of mice to nociceptive stimulus (hot plate) and attenuated the antinociceptive action of oxotremorine. The administration of 6-OHDA to desipramine treated mice prevented both the loss of cerebral NA and the ...

DEVELOPMENT OF THE BLOOD‐BRAIN BARRIER FOR 6‐HYDROXYDOPAMINE

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1973
AbstractThe postnatal development of the blood‐brain barrier for the neurotoxic action of 6‐hydroxydopamine on central noradrenaline neurons has been investigated by recording the in vitro uptake of [3H]noradrenaline in slices from cerebral cortex, hypothalamus and spinal cord in rats treated with large doses of 6‐hydroxydopamine at different ages. The

6-Hydroxydopamine in Treatment of Open-Angle Glaucoma

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1976
In patients with open-angle glaucoma, subconjunctival injection of 6-hydroxydopamine produced chemical sympathectomy and sensitization to topically applied epinephrine. Prior to entry into this study, all patients had intraocular pressures (IOPs) greater than 30 mm Hg and had not responded to maximal medical therapy.
