MDMA Stimulus Generalization to the 5-HT1A Serotonin Agonist 8-Hydroxy-2- (di-n-propylamino)tetralin
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 2000The abused substance N-methyl-1-(3, 4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2-aminopropane, or MDMA, serves as a training drug in animals. Because the 5-HT(1A) receptor antagonist NAN-190 has been shown to partially antagonize the MDMA stimulus, and because NAN-190 binds at several different types of receptors, in the present study we examined other agents (e.g ...

Using in-vivo microdialysis, we examined the effect of the serotonin 5-HT1A agonist R-(+)-8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin on striatal extracellular excitatory amino acids in an animal model of Parkinson's disease. Extracellular glutamate and aspartate in the dopamine-denervated striatum of unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine-lesioned rats were ...

Experiments were designed to test the hypothesis that activation of forebrain 5-HT1A receptors elicits cardiovascular responses. The microinjection of R-(+)-8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino) tetralin [(+)-8-OH-DPAT], a selective 5-HT1A receptor agonist, in the preoptic area of conscious rats increased blood pressure and heart rate at doses of 0.2-20 nmol;

The effects of the putative serotonin agonist 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino) tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) on food intake in freely-feeding and food deprived rats were examined. In freely-feeding rats, low doses of 8-OH-DPAT (15-60 micrograms/kg) significantly increased food intake without affecting drinking, grooming, rearing or locomotion.

Our previous work indicates that type and level of dietary fat influences selection of protein and carbohydrate diets. Serotonin (5HT) appears to be involved in this feeding behavior. In the present study, we examined the effects of 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) on feeding behavior, and fenfluramine on in vitro 5HT and 5 ...

The present study was designed to examine the effects of intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) on the efflux of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in the extracellular fluid of the dorsal hippocampus, using in vivo microdialysis.

The 5-HT1A receptor antagonistic properties of 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)-4-[4-(2-phthalimmido)butyl] piperazine (NAN-190) were studied in rats: its effect on the 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin (8-OH-DPAT)-induced behavioural syndrome (flat body posture and reciprocal forepaw treading), hypothermia and secretion of corticosterone, i.e.

We examined the effects of (R)- and (S)-8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin hydrobromide (8-OH-DPAT) on the monosynaptic spinal reflex in rats. In intact rats, (R)-8-OH-DPAT (10 microg/kg, i.v.) enhanced the amplitude of the monosynaptic reflex, whereas at 100 microg/kg, it reduced the amplitude.

In this study we examined the effects of 5-HT1A ligands in rats trained to discriminate 0.16 mg/kg i.p. 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) from saline in a two-lever, fixed ratio (FR)10 schedule of food reinforcement, and in pigeons trained to discriminate 0.31 mg/kg i.m.

The hypothermic and motor behavioural responses to 8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) have been investigated in the rat. The dose-effect relationship showed that hypothermia appeared at a lower dose than a definite motor syndrome. The hypothermic response to 8-OH-DPAT was attenuated following depletion of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) by ...
