Preparation of Hop Estrogen-Active Material for Production of Food Supplements
In recent years, the interest in the health-promoting effects of hop prenylflavonoids, especially its estrogenic effects, has grown. Unfortunately, one of the most potent phytoestrogens identified so far, 8-prenylnaringenin, is only a minor component of ...

Reductive Metabolism of Xanthohumol and 8-Prenylnaringenin by the Intestinal Bacterium Eubacterium ramulus. [PDF]
ScopeThe intestinal microbiota transforms a wide range of available substrates, including polyphenols. Microbial catabolites of polyphenols can contribute in significant ways to the health‐promoting properties of their parent polyphenols. This work aims to identify intestinal metabolites of xanthohumol (XN), a prenylated flavonoid found in hops ...

Formation of (2R)- and (2S)-8-Prenylnaringenin Glucuronides by Human UDP-Glucuronosyltransferases. [PDF]
Occurring in hops (Humulus lupulus) and beer as a racemic mixture, (2R,2S)-8-prenylnaringenin (8-PN) is a potent phytoestrogen in hop dietary supplements used by women as alternatives to conventional hormone therapy. With a half-life exceeding 20 h, 8-PN is excreted primarily as 8-PN-7-O-glucuronide or 8-PN-4'-O-glucuronide.

Chemoprotective Effects of Xanthohumol against the Carcinogenic Mycotoxin Aflatoxin B1
The present study addresses the chemoprotective effects of xanthohumol (XN), a prenylated flavonoid found in the female inflorescences (hops) of the plant Humulus lupulus L., against the carcinogenic food contaminant aflatoxin B1 (AFB1).

Evaluation of estrogenic activity of licorice species in comparison with hops used in botanicals for menopausal symptoms. [PDF]
The increased cancer risk associated with hormone therapies has encouraged many women to seek non-hormonal alternatives including botanical supplements such as hops (Humulus lupulus) and licorice (Glycyrrhiza spec.) to manage menopausal symptoms ...
