Epitope characterization of the protective monoclonal antibody VN04-2 shows broadly neutralizing activity against highly pathogenic H5N1

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2008
The monoclonal antibody VN04-2 was previously shown to protect mice against lethal A/Vietnam/1203/04 H5N1 virus challenge when administered pre- and post-infection.

Influenza H5N1 - next pandemic?

open access: yesRevista Med, 2013

SARS and H5N1

open access: yes, 2017
Chapter 5 looks at bird flu (H5N1) pandemics and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). This chapter shifts the focus from the relationship between individual health rights and state requirements, notably immunization, and responsibilities, particularly in providing security against health threats, to international requirements and responsibilities ...

Antiviral effect of a selective COX-2 inhibitor on H5N1 infection in vitro

open access: yes, 2011
A selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor has been previously shown to suppress the hyper-induced pro-inflammatory responses in H5N1 infected primary human cells.

Atypical Avian Influenza (H5N1)

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2004
We report the first case of avian influenza in a patient with fever and diarrhea but no respiratory symptoms. Avian influenza should be included in the differential diagnosis for patients with predominantly gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly if they have a history of exposure to poultry.

The surveillance and risk assessment of wild birds in northern Australia for highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), caused by infection with H5N1 virus, is a transboundary disease which has had a significant socio-economic impact on the poultry production systems of Eurasia, and spillover events with mortality in humans and ...

Discordant correlation between serological assays observed when measuring heterosubtypic responses against avian influenza H5 and H7 viruses in unexposed individuals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The human population is constantly exposed to multiple influenza A subtypes due to zoonotic spill over and rapid viral evolution driven by intrinsic error-prone replication and immunological pressure.

Sequence Characterization of matrix protein (M1) in influenza A viruses (H1, H3 and H5)

open access: yesMicrobiology Research, 2011
This study brings the analysis of amino acid sequences of matrix protein (M1) from the influenza virus A (H1N1, H3N2 and H5N1) during 2007-2208. 741 sequences of M1 were compared, of them, H1N1 388; H3N2 251 and H5N1 102.

A) Phylogenetic tree relating the influenza A (H5N1) hemagglutinin (HA) segments of 589 avian, feline, and human viruses

open access: yes, 2011
The tree includes all HA segments isolated since 2000 from humans (82 isolates, minimum sequence length 1,000 nt), birds (503 isolates, minimum length 1500 nt), and cats (4 isolates). The 36 newly sequenced genomes are highlighted in color.
