Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Rectus Muscle Hematoma as a Rare Differential Diagnosis of Acute Abdomen; a Case Report

open access: yesEmergency, 2018
Rectus sheath hematoma is a rare but well-known problem. Exercise, pregnancy, subcutaneous injection of insulin, abdominal surgery and severe coughs can be predisposing factors of hemorrhage in the mentioned muscle sheath. Here, we will discuss a case of

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Association of α-SMA/FAP-positive cancer-associated fibroblasts with clinicopathological features and prognosis in extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

open access: yesDiagnostic Pathology
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the value of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) that positively express α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and fibroblast activation protein (FAP) as survival indicators for patients with extrahepatic ...

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Relationship between stress hyperglycemia ratio and gastrointestinal bleeding and mortality after coronary artery bypass grafting: a multicenter cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundGastrointestinal bleeding after coronary artery bypass grafting (GIBCG) is a serious postoperative complication linked to increased mortality. The stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) has been recognized as a reliable predictor of adverse clinical ...

An acute abdomen pain

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2009
A 61-year-old retired farmer started experiencing severe pain in his abdomen for the last 2 weeks along with abdominal distension, vomiting and inability to pass flatus or faeces. He was investigated on admission to our casualty and an abdominal x ray revealed classical features of intestinal obstruction (fig 1).

Characterization of therapeutic antibodies targeting lymphatic and vascular resistance factor for the treatment of hypervascularized and highly metastatic cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LVRF (lymphatic and vascular resistance factor) is a VEGFA splice variant upregulated in response to anti‐angiogenic therapy that fosters tumor adaptation through enhanced vascularization, lymphangiogenesis, and metastatic dissemination. Targeting LVRF with fully human neutralizing antibodies disrupts these processes and limits resistant tumor growth ...
