Exploring the Relationship between Fusion Genes and MicroRNAs in Cancer

open access: yesCells, 2023
Fusion genes are key cancer driver genes that can be used as potential drug targets in precision therapies, and they can also serve as accurate diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.

Time-sequential Pipelined Imaging with Wavefront Coding and Super Resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Wavefront coding has long offered the prospect of mitigating optical aberrations and extended depth of field, but image quality and noise performance are inevitably reduced. We report on progress in the use of agile encoding and pipelined fusion of image

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Evaluation of corneal topography and higher order aberrations of the fellow eye in unilateral keratoconus

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society, 2023
Purpose To assess parameters of corneal topography and higher order aberrations (HOAs) data in the apparently normal contralateral eyes of unilateral keratoconus (KC) cases in comparison with normal eyes of healthy individuals. Patients and methods This

Aberrations in shift-invariant linear optical imaging systems using partially coherent fields

open access: yes, 2015
Here the role and influence of aberrations in optical imaging systems employing partially coherent complex scalar fields is studied. Imaging systems require aberrations to yield contrast in the output image. For linear shift-invariant optical systems, we

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Night vision and glare vision thresholds and recovery time in myopic and hyperopic eyes

open access: yesAfrican Vision and Eye Health, 2010
The purpose of this study was to compare night vision and glare vision thresholds and recovery times in myopic and hyperopic eyes. Using a Night Sight Meter, these three parameters were measured in 44 myopic and 44 hyperopic eyes of Black male subjects ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

m-FISH analysis reveals complexity of chromosome aberrations in individuals occupationally exposed with internal plutonium: A pilot study to assess the relevance of complex aberrations as biomarkers of exposure to high-LET α particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We recently demonstrated that a significant proportion of apparently stable insertions induced after exposure to a mean of 1 α particle/cell, detected using 3-colour FISH, were part of larger unstable complexes when visualised by 24-colour FISH ...
