Chemical Characterization and Subunit Hybridization of Human Hemoglobin H and Associated Compounds [PDF]
Two abnormal hemoglobin components have been detected in association with thalassemiahemoglobin H disease. These components, as well as the major hemoglobin component, have been chemically characterized by determination of the amino acid composition, N ...

Spatial Cell Death and Oxidative Stress Dynamics in Gas Plasma‐Treated Tumor Tissues
Schematic representation of the four experimental models to study tissue penetration and oxidation. Four tissue models were used. Human pancreatic cancer cells were grown on the chorioallantois membrane of chicken embryos and gas plasma‐treated in ovo, murine colorectal tumor tissue was gas plasma‐exposed ex vivo, murine squamous cell carcinoma cells ...

A new abnormal human hemoglobin: Hb prato (α231 (B12) Arg→Ser β2)
An abnormal human hemoglobin was found in a hemolysate from a 5-year-old healthy child living in Prato (Tuscany, Italy). Structural studies demonstrated a previously unreported amino acid substitution, α31 (B12) Arg → Ser (this is an α 1β1 contact).

Toward Chromoselective Transformations in Biological Systems: Perspectives and Challenges
Controlling biological systems with small‐molecule chromophores has evolved into a powerful strategy and is applied from chemical biology to medicine. However, the complexity of in vivo systems cannot be matched by a single wavelength of light. Developing methods to combine and individually control multiple chromophores is crucial.

Ratio of sickle-cell anemia hemoglobin to normal hemoglobin in sicklemics [PDF]
It has been observed that all of the erythrocytes of individuals with sickle-cell trait undergo sickling and that a greater reduction in partial pressure of oxygen is required to produce complete sickling in sickle-cell trait erythrocytes than in those ...
