Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Evaluation of ground stiffness using surface accelerometers during vibratory compaction

open access: yesSICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration
Soil compaction is a critical element in construction, as it directly influences the quality and durability of structures. Vibratory rollers are widely employed to enhance ground stiffness, with traditional methods emphasizing the number of compaction ...

Seismic Response of Rock Slopes with the Anchor Cable in Centrifuge Modeling Tests

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
In order to study the seismic response of the rock slopes with the anchor cable, centrifuge modeling tests were performed on concrete slope models. Different seismic loadings were performed to investigate the horizontal acceleration response, the rock ...

Accelerated antidepressant response to lithium augmentation of imipramine

open access: yesIndustrial Psychiatry Journal, 2016
Treatment of depressive episode often poses a challenge. Although there are numerous medicines available for its treatment but they all have a lag period of 2-3 weeks before they start showing their result. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that an initial lithium-tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) combination has a quicker and better ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Experimental study on acceleration response laws of shallow-buried bias tunnels with a small distance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Based on the similarity theory, a physical testing model with scale of 1:10 was designed and fabricated. The Wenchuan wave (WC-XZ), Darui artificial wave (DR-XZ) and Kobe wave (K-XZ) were adopted as excitation waves which was XZ directions (horizontal ...

The human ocular torsion position response during yaw angular acceleration

open access: yes, 1995
Recent results by Wearne [(1993) Ph.D. thesis] using the scleral search-coil method of measuring eye position indicate that changes in ocular torsion position (OTP) occur during yaw angular acceleration about an earth vertical axis.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Investigation on acceleration response of fiber optic mandrel hydrophone

open access: yes, 2006
The acceleration response of fiber optic mandrel hydrophone is studied based on the theory of elastic dynamics in this paper. For the first time the influence of the optical fiber on the acceleration response is taken into consideration.
