The Spatial Structure of an Accretion Disk [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2008
Based on the microlensing variability of the two-image gravitational lens HE1104-1805 observed between 0.4 and 8 microns, we have measured the size and wavelength-dependent structure of the quasar accretion disk. Modeled as a power law in temperature, T proportional to R^-beta, we measure a B-band (0.13 microns in the rest frame) half-light radius of ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Radiation and Magnetic Pressure Support in Accretion Disks Around Supermassive Black Holes and the Physical Origin of the Extreme-ultraviolet to Soft X-Ray Spectrum

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the results of four 3D radiation magnetohydrodynamic simulations of accretion disks around a 10 ^8 solar mass black hole, which produce the far-ultraviolet spectrum peak and demonstrate a robust physical mechanism for producing the extreme ...

Viscosity Mechanisms in Accretion Disks [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2000
The self-sustained turbulence that develops in magnetized accretion disks is suppressed in the weakly ionized, quiescent disks of close binary stars. Because accretion still proceeds during quiescence, another viscosity mechanism operates in these systems.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Double-hump spectrum, pulse profile dip, and pulsed fraction spectra from the low-accretion regime in the X-ray pulsar MAXI J0655-013

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Accreting X-ray pulsars (XRPs) undergo different physical regimes depending on different mass accretion rates, with related changes in the emitted X-ray spectral properties.

Compact Objects and Accretion Disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Recent developments in the spectropolarimetric study of compact objects, specifically black holes (stellar and massive) and neutron stars are reviewed. The lectures are organized around five topics: disks, jets, outflows, neutron stars and black holes.

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Hoyle-Lyttleton Accretion onto Accretion Disks [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 1999
We investigate Hoyle-Lyttleton accretion for the case where the central source is a luminous accretion disk. In Hoyle-Lyttleton accretion onto a “spherical” source, accretion takes place in an axially symmetric manner around a so-called accretion axis and the accretion rate Ṁ is given as ṀHL(1 − Γ)2, where ṀHL is the accretion rate of the classical ...
