Intergranular strain accumulation in a near-alpha titanium alloy during plastic deformation

Acta Materialia, 2002
Abstract Neutron diffractometry has been used to characterise the evolution of intergranular lattice strains during the tensile loading of the near-α titanium alloy Ti-834. The measurements were made on tensile testpieces in directions both parallel and perpendicular to the applied load.

Slip transfer and plastic strain accumulation across grain boundaries in Hastelloy X

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 2012
Abstract In this study, high resolution ex situ digital image correlation (DIC) was used to measure plastic strain accumulation with sub-grain level spatial resolution in uniaxial tension of a nickel-based superalloy, Hastelloy X. In addition, the underlying microstructure was characterized with similar spatial resolution using electron backscatter

Plastic strain accumulation behaviour of AH32 steel in a cyclic stress-corrosion environment

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2018
Abstract Using AH32 steel as the material of interest, the present study fabricated partially corroded steel specimens based on the principle of Faraday's law. AH32 steel specimens with different corrosion losses were subjected to uniaxial cyclic loading tests at room temperature; these tests considered the effects of the number of initial loading ...

Generation and accumulation of point defects in FCC single crystals upon plastic strain

Russian Physics Journal, 2009
A model of point defect generation and accumulation in a FCC crystal upon strain with a constant rate at room temperature is suggested in the present work. The model results are in agreement with the available experimental data. The influence of point defects on the formation of fragmented substructures is analyzed.

Statistical consideration of plastic strain accumulation in cyclic deformation and fatigue crack initiation

Scripta Metallurgica, 1984
Abstract : By considering a random nature of slip, we have obtained the elastic energy, stored in a slip region by cyclic deformation. It is similar, in form, to that given by Tanaka and Mura. Originator-supplied keywords include: Stochastics, fatigue, cyclic strain accumulation, Coffin-Manson Law, Reprints. (Author)

The Influence of Prior Plastic Loading on the Accumulation of Creep Strain in 316H Stainless Steel

Volume 6B: Materials and Fabrication, 2019
Abstract Structural components are regularly exposed to cyclic thermal stresses which can induce plastic deformation within them. The accumulation of plastic deformation will eventually lead to failure of the component. The creep behaviour a material exhibits depends upon the magnitude and sign of the prior loading the material was ...

FEM numerical strategies for the evaluation of the accumulated plastic strain due to a cyclic load condition

2023
In this study, the phenomenon of accumulation of residual plastic deformation is numerically evaluated for a stiffened panel subjected to uniaxial cyclic loading. In particular, three strategies are investigated through the use of FEM (Finite Element Method) in the ADINA Software environment.
