C‐mannosylation promotes ADAMTS1 activation and secretion in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings

Spirapril – a modern ACE inhibitor

open access: yesКардиоваскулярная терапия и профилактика, 2005
An ACE inhibitor, spirapril, is widely used in modern cardiology practice. Its pharmacokinetics is characterized by prolonged elimination half-life, >24 hours. There is no need for dose titration, even in patients with chronic renal failure.

Tissue Angiotensin II Generating System by Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme and Chymase

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2006
.: It had been believed that angiotensin II (Ang II) was produced by the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), which was established in the 1950’s. After a while, people realized that the multiple functions of Ang II could not be explained by the conventional ...

Are ARBs or ACE inhibitors preferred for nephropathy in diabetes? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) have been shown to reduce the progression of nephropathy in several consistent studies. While ACE inhibitors have not been as well studied for the endpoint of nephropathy, patients with nephropathy exhibit reduced ...

Liquid chromatographic strategies for separation of bioactive compounds in food matrices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nowadays, there is an increasing attention for nutraceuticals and, in general, bioactive compounds naturally present in food. Indeed, the possibility of preserving human health and preventing disease (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, cancer etc.) by the ...

ACE inhibitors and angioedema

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1999
Sir, Angioedema of the lips, tongue, and glottis as an adverse reaction to angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors was recently highlighted in this journal.1 We wish to add that intestinal angioedema is a well-documented side-effect of ACE inhibitor therapy.2 Patients may present with acute abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting and abdominal ...

The nicotinamide hypothesis revisited—plant defense signaling integrating PARP, nicotinamide, nicotinic acid, epigenetics, and glutathione

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nicotinamide (NIC) and nicotinic acid (NIA) are proposed as stress signaling compounds in plants. Oxidative stress may lead to single strand breaks (SSB) in DNA, which activate poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase (PARP). NIC and NIA are then formed from NAD. NIC and NIA can promote epigenetic changes leading to the expression of defense genes specific for the ...

Single cis‐elements in brassinosteroid‐induced upregulated genes are insufficient to recruit both redox states of the BIL1/BZR1 DNA‐binding domain

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phytohormone brassinosteroid‐induced gene regulation by the transcription factor BIL1/BZR1 involves redox‐dependent DNA‐binding alternation and interaction with the transcription factor PIF4. The reduced BIL1/BZR1 dimer binds preferred cis‐elements, while oxidation alters its oligomerization state and disrupts DNA‐binding ability.
