A rapid and efficient protocol for the synthesis of 2‐benzylbenzaldehydes and anthracenes is reported, based on the infrared (IR) irradiation‐assisted Pd‐catalyzed C(sp3)─H arylation and the tandem C(sp3)─H arylation/electrophilic aromatic cyclization of ortho‐tolualdehydes with aryl iodides via a transient directing group (TGD) strategy.

A series of N-(2-(benzoyl/4-chlorobenzoyl)-benzofuran- 3-yl)-2-(substituted)-acetamide derivatives (4a-l, 5a-l) was synthesized in good yield. All synthesized compounds were in agreement with elemental and spectral data.
