Sertraline Treatment Can Mimic Niemann‐Pick Type C Biomarker Profile: A Diagnostic Pitfall

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oxysterols (cholestane‐3β,5α,6β‐triol and 7‐ketocholesterol) and N‐palmitoyl‐O‐phosphocholineserine (PPCS) are sensitive biomarkers for Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC) screening. However, false‐positive results occur, with a biomarker profile suggestive of NPC despite the absence of pathogenic variants in genes involved in NPC or ...

Highly Conductive Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) Polystyrene Sulfonate Polymer Coated Cathode for the Microbial Electrosynthesis of Acetate From Carbon Dioxide

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2018
Microbial electrosynthesis (MES) is a bioelectrochemical technology developed for the conversion of carbon dioxide and electric energy into multicarbon chemicals of interest. As with other biotechnologies, achieving high production rate is a prerequisite

Effect of acetyl substitution on the optical anisotropy of cellulose acetate films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The effect of acetyl substitution on the optical properties of cellulose acetate (CA) was investigated in the present study. During hot-stretching, the absolute orientation birefringence increased with tensile stress. The stretched films with high acetyl

Peripheral Neutrophil Activation and Extracellular Trap Formation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Markers of neutrophil activation are increased in plasma during ALS, and markers of NET formation associate with ALS survival. ABSTRACT Objectives Peripheral neutrophil levels in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) inversely correlate with survival, suggesting a role for neutrophils in disease progression.

Stratification of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients Based on Acetate Utilization

open access: yesCell Reports, 2015
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a deadly form of liver cancer that is increasingly prevalent. We analyzed global gene expression profiling of 361 HCC tumors and 49 adjacent noncancerous liver samples by means of combinatorial network-based analysis. We

Building a Framework for Sexual and Reproductive Health Care in the Rheumatology Context: Content and Approaches

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
People with systemic autoimmune and rheumatic diseases (SARDs) are at higher risk than the general population of experiencing adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes such as preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and maternal and/or fetal death.

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.
