Removal of Acetic Acid from Bacterial Culture Media by Adsorption onto a Two-Component Composite Polymer Gel

open access: yesGels, 2022
Organic acids, including acetic acid, are the metabolic products of many microorganisms. Acetic acid is a target product useful in the fermentation process. However, acetic acid has an inhibitory effect on microorganisms and limits fermentation. Thus, it

7-Chloro-6,8-dinitroquinazolin-4(3H)-one acetic acid monosolvate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2012
In the title compound, C8H3ClN4O5·C2H4O2, both the nitro groups are close to perpendicular [dihedral angles = 67.62 (15) and 86.73 (12)°] to the almost planar quinazoline unit [r.m.s. deviation = 0.014Å]. In

Acid-base titrations in solvents of relatively low dielectric constant [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
From a comparison of the pKa values of various compounds in the solvent 1,2-dichloroethane, m-cresol, acetic acid and pyridine, the differences in basicity of these solvents could be determined.

Characterization of Thermotolerant Acetic Acid Bacteria Isolated from Various Plant Beverages in Thailand

open access: yesApplied Food Biotechnology, 2020
Background and objective: Thermotolerant acetic acid bacteria are more resistant to high temperatures than that other bacteria are. This difference includes 5-10ºC, which decreases high costs of cooling systems needed for the growth of these bacteria ...

Effects of Pitfall Trap Preservative on Collections of Carabid Beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Effects of six pitfall trap preservatives (5% acetic acid solution, distilled water, 70% ethanol, 50% ethylene glycol solution, 50% propylene glycol solution, and 10% saline solution) on collections of carabid beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were studied

Polygenic analysis of very high acetic acid tolerance in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae reveals a complex genetic background and several new causative alleles

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2020
Background High acetic acid tolerance is of major importance in industrial yeast strains used for second-generation bioethanol production, because of the high acetic acid content of lignocellulose hydrolysates.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Bacillus cereus responses to acid stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Coping with acid environments is one of the prerequisites for the soil saprophytic and human pathogenic lifestyle of Bacillus cereus. This minireview highlights novel insights in the responses displayed by vegetative cells and germinating spores of B ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Acetic acid positively modulates proline metabolism for mitigating PEG-mediated drought stress in Maize and Arabidopsis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
IntroductionOsmotic imbalance is one of the major consequences of drought stress, negatively affecting plant growth and productivity. Acetic acid has modulatory roles in osmotic balance in plants; however, the mechanistic insights into acetic acid ...
