Development of CPA‐Catalyzed β‐Selective Reductive Amination of Cardenolides for the Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Hydrolytically Stable Analogs

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
We describe a new method to produce hydrolytically stable cardiotonic steroids using a CPA‐controlled diastereoselective reductive amination of cardenolide aglycones. The oleandrin and digitoxigenin analogs exhibited promising activity against various cancer cell lines in the NCI‐60 screen.

Swelling of acetylated wood in organic liquids

open access: yes, 2005
To investigate the affinity of acetylated wood for organic liquids, Yezo spruce wood specimens were acetylated with acetic anhydride, and their swelling in various liquids were compared to those of untreated specimens. The acetylated wood was rapidly and

Fluorenyl Cations: Synthesis and Reactivity

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This review covers the history of fluorenyl cations from Deno's first report in 1954 on the parent fluorenyl cation to the present. The parent cation and most derivatives have only been observed as a fleeting species by mass spectrometry, UV/Vis spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, or NMR spectroscopy while recent developments led to isolable species ...

One‐Step Conversion of Bisphenol A Polycarbonate into Aliphatic Polycarbonate Polyols for Recyclable Polyurethane Production

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
One‐step synthesis of aliphatic polycarbonate (APC) polyols via upcycling of bisphenol‐A based polycarbonate (BPA‐PC) is shown. These APC polyols were further utilized to produce thermoplastic polyurethanes that exhibit excellent chemical recyclability, enabling the simultaneous hydrolysis of both carbonate and urethane bonds.

Fire-resistant phosphorus containing polyimides and copolyimides [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Phosphorus-containing polyimides and copolyimides are synthesized in a two-step polycondensation reaction from 1- (diorganooxyphosphonl)methly 2,4- and 2,6-diaminobenzenes and tetracarboxylic anhydride. The diorgano position of the diorganooxyphosphonyl

Tailored Watson–Crick Pairing Partners for Xanthosine in RNA

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
RNAs with kappa‐xanthosine (K–X) or 2‐iminocytidine‐xanthosine (2imC–X) base pairs form stable double helices that have higher melting temperatures than those of the A–U or G–U references. Access to these novel 2imC‐modified RNAs is possible through the mild, selective chemical conversion of 2‐thiocytidine RNA precursors.

Tuning NIR Absorption and Emission of Diphenyl‐Dihydrophenazine‐Based Merocyanines with Ultra Narrow Band Gap

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Novel merocyanine derivatives with a strong diphenyl‐dihydrophenazine donor and a series of strong electron acceptors were developed. The indanone and indandione acceptor units were modified by dicyanovinylene groups to tune acceptor strength. Among these derivatives, DPPZ‐IDD realized an ultranarrow electrochemical gap of 0.93 eV and an optical band ...
