Single-Carbon Chemistry of Acetogenic and Methanogenic Bacteria

Science, 1985
Methanogenic and acetogenic bacteria metabolize carbon monoxide, methanol, formate, hydrogen and carbon dioxide gases and, in the case of certain methanogens, acetate, by single-carbon (C 1 ) biochemical mechanisms. Many of these reactions occur while the C 1 compounds are linked to pteridine

Acetogenic and Acid-Producing Clostridia

1989
Clostridia degrade a wide variety of organic compounds to mixtures of products that include acids, alcohols, CO2, and H2. The most commonly formed acids are acetate, propionate, and butyrate, but formate, lactate, succinate, and caproate are also observed as products.

Acetogenic Microbial Degradation of Vinyl Chloride

Environmental Science & Technology, 2000
Under methanogenic conditions, microbial degradation of [1,2-14C]vinyl chloride (VC) resulted in significant (14 ± 3% maximum recovery) but transient recovery of radioactivity as 14C-acetate. Subsequently, 14C-acetate was degraded to 14CH4 and 14CO2 (18 ± 2% and 54 ± 3% final recoveries, respectively). In contrast, under 2-bromoethanesulfonic acid (BES)

[Sugar phosphorylation activities in acetogenic bacteria].

Wei sheng wu xue bao = Acta microbiologica Sinica, 2004
Seven acetogenic bacteria (Acetitomaculum ruminis, Acetobacterium woodii, Eubacterium limosum as well as isolates A2, A4, A10 and H3HH) were tested for PEP- and ATP-dependent phosphorylation of glucose and 2-deoxyglucose. Although all organisms had detectable phosphorylation activity, substantial variation existed in the rates of both PEP- and ATP ...
