Cardiovascular and hepatic toxicity of cocaine: potential beneficial effects of modulators of oxidative stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Oxidative stress (OS) is thought to play an important role in the pharmacological and toxic effects of various drugs of abuse. Herein we review the literature on the mechanisms responsible for the cardiovascular and hepatic toxicity of cocaine with ...

Seizure after a massive infusion of N-acetylcysteine and successful treatment with a good outcome

open access: yesJournal of Emergency Practice and Trauma, 2022
Objective:N-acetylcysteine is frequently used as an efficacious antidote for acetaminophen toxicity. It prevents liver injury induced by paracetamol and in most cases the overdose of acetylcysteine produces mild clinical effects.

Contribution of Cystine-Glutamate Antiporters to the Psychotomimetic Effects of Phencyclidine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Altered glutamate signaling contributes to a myriad of neural disorders, including schizophrenia. While synaptic levels are intensely studied, nonvesicular release mechanisms, including cystine–glutamate exchange, maintain high steady-state glutamate ...

Tauroursodeoxycholic acid dampens oncogenic apoptosis induced by endoplasmic reticulum stress during hepatocarcinogen exposure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by the accumulation of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), which activates the unfolded protein response (UPR).

Individually orientated choice of mucolytic drug for coughing in a child with acute respiratory viral infections

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2019
Coughing in acute respiratory infections, regardless of the level of infection: upper or lower respiratory tract is a frequent clinical symptom in childhood. The analysis of the modern literature and the data of the authors’ own researches testify to the

Repeated \u3cem\u3eN\u3c/em\u3e-Acetylcysteine Administration Alters Plasticity-Dependent Effects of Cocaine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cocaine produces a persistent reduction in cystine–glutamate exchange via system xc− in the nucleus accumbens that may contribute to pathological glutamate signaling linked to addiction.

Endothelial preconditioning by transient oxidative stress reduces inflammatory responses of cultured endothelial cells to TNF-α [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Brief episodes of ischemia can render an organ resistant to subsequent severe ischemia. This ‘ischemic preconditioning’ is ascribed to various mechanisms, including oxidative stress. We investigated whether preconditioning exists on an endothelial level.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

The use of mucolytic therapy in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2018
The article is devoted to the use of mucolytic therapy in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract. Pathogen exposure results in an increase in the viscosity and adhesion of the respiratory tract mucus and leads to ...
