Methanesulfonic acid-catalyzed conversion of glucose and xylose mixtures to levulinic acid and furfural [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Methanesulfonic acid (MSA) was compared with sulfuric acid for the conversion of glucose and xylose mixtures to produce levulinic acid and furfural. The interactions of glucose and xylose, the predominant sugars found in biomass, were found to influence ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Conjugated linolenic acid (CLnA), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and other biohydrogenation intermediates in plasma and milk fat of cows fed raw or extruded linseed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Thirty lactating dairy cows were used in a 333 Latin-square design to investigate the effects of a raw or extruded blend of linseed and wheat bran (70:30) on plasma and milk fatty-acids (FA).

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Storage Quality and Tocopherol Content of Crude Glandless Cottonseed Oil Under Accelerated Oxidation Conditions in Comparison with Commercial Cottonseed Oil

open access: yesFoods
Cottonseed oil (CSO) is regarded as a nutritionally balanced oil, and is routinely used for food and cosmetics products. Autooxidation degrades oil storage quality and shortens the shelf life of oil products.

Increased Rate of Serum Uric Acid Levels in Yusho Sufferers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We measured serum uric acid levels in Yusho sufferers annually from 2007 to 2012 in Nagasaki prefecture. We observed an increased rate of serum uric acid levels in 38.2% of the male and 5.5% of the female sufferers. There was no relation among serum uric
