Comparative genomic analysis of carbon and nitrogen assimilation mechanisms in three indigenous bioleaching bacteria: predictions and validations

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2008
Background Carbon and nitrogen fixation are essential pathways for autotrophic bacteria living in extreme environments. These bacteria can use carbon dioxide directly from the air as their sole carbon source and can use different sources of nitrogen such

Bacterial CS2 hydrolases from Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans strains are homologous to the archaeal catenane CS2 hydrolase. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Bacteriol, 2013
Contains fulltext : 119229.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access)Carbon disulfide (CS2) and carbonyl sulfide (COS) are important in the global sulfur cycle, and CS2 is used as a solvent in the viscose industry.

Genetic variability in Acidithiobacillus spp. – a working horse of environmental biotechnologies

open access: yesNova Biotechnologica et Chimica, 2018
The genus Acidithiobacillus comprises 7 species of Gram-negative obligatory acidophilic chemolithotrophic bacteria that derive energy mainly from the oxidation of reduced sulphur compounds. Four of the species also catalyse the dissimilatory oxidation of

Purification and Properties of Thiosulfate Dehydrogenase from Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans JCM7814

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2001
A key enzyme of the thiosulfate oxidation pathway in Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans JCM7814 was investigated. As a result of assaying the enzymatic activities of thiosulfate dehydrogenase, rhodanese, and thiosulfate reductase at 5.5 of intracellular pH, the activity of thiosulfate dehydrogenase was measured as the key enzyme.

Effect of chloride salts on biodesulfurization process of a colombian coal

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2013
A chloride salts medium was evaluated in biodesulfurization processes of a Colombian coal (2.34% total sulfur: 1.34% as pyritic, 0.90% as organic and 0.10% from sulfates), employing a consortium of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Acidithiobacillus ...

Biofilm Formation Is Crucial for Efficient Copper Bioleaching From Bornite Under Mesophilic Conditions: Unveiling the Lifestyle and Catalytic Role of Sulfur-Oxidizing Bacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Biofilm formation within the process of bioleaching of copper sulfides is a relevant aspect of iron- and sulfur-oxidizing acidophilic microorganisms as it represents their lifestyle in the actual heap/dump mining industry. Here, we used biofilm flow cell
