Sturgeons, considered `living fossils,` face extinction due to various factors, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List. The present study describes a uniform sperm cryopreservation method for the endangered Caspian Sea sturgeon species, which are beluga (Huso huso), Persian (Acipenser persicus), stellate (Acipenser ...

Abstract Fishes experience thermal stress in their natural environment that can be caused by natural or anthropogenic factors and can directly affect their physiology. In this study, we developed a multispecies OpenArray™ qPCR (quantitative polymerase chain reaction) ‘chip’ to measure the effects of acute thermal stress on the mRNA response of ...

A bristle‐nosed Jurassic ray‐finned fish (Actinopterygii) bears true dermal odontodes on its snout
Teeth show extreme diversity, including tooth‐like dermal odontodes or “skin teeth” in many extant fishes. We describe the anatomy of enlarged tubercles on the snout of Redfieldius, an extinct early Jurassic fish. We found that the tubercles in Redfieldius are dermal odontodes that evolved independently from those of living species. Abstract Comparison

Disaccharide combinations and the expression of enolase3 and plasma membrane Ca2+ ATPase isoform in sturgeon sperm cryopreservation [PDF]
ContentsAcipenser sinensis and Acipenser dabryanus are critically endangered species, so germplasm conservation via cryopreservation of sperm is necessary.

Dam removals are increasing globally, yet ecological outcomes vary widely because biological recovery depends on post‐removal connectivity and access to source populations. We evaluated how multiple dam removals and remaining fragmentation influenced fish assemblage recovery in the Cuyahoga River (OH, United States), a historically polluted Great Lakes

Abstract Burbot (Lota lota) are a promising candidate for commercial aquaculture production. Methods for captive culture are well understood, the species is highly regarded for its muscle, roe, liver, and skin, and its resistance to many salmonid pathogens coupled with the species' affinity to trout‐like water quality conditions make burbot an ...
