Fatty acid composition in tissues of the farmed Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii)

Food Chemistry, 2014
The fatty acid (FA) compositions of the diet and diverse tissues of the farmed Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) were analyzed in detail to assess their nutritional quality. Twelve male fish were sampled for muscle, fat, liver, brain, gill, kidney and gonad and the tissue FA measured by gas-liquid chromatography.

Electrical excitability of the heart in a Chondrostei fish, the Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii)

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2014
Sturgeon (family Acipenseridae) are regarded as living fossils due to their ancient origin and exceptionally slow evolution. To extend our knowledge of fish cardiac excitability to a Chondrostei fish, we examined electrophysiological phenotype of the Siberian sturgeon ( Acipenser baerii) heart with recordings of epicardial ECG, intracellular action ...

Cannulation in the Cultured Siberian Sturgeon, Acipenser baerii Brandt

2017
The chapter deals with a detailed description on how to equip a sturgeon with an intra-aortic cannula. In a first section, the advantages of such a procedure are recalled. Later on, a brief overview cannula in sturgeon is given. Further, the list of material and the chronology of process are provided.

Species structure, contemporary distribution and status of the Siberian surgeon Acipenser baerii

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 1997
A detailed analysis of the historical and contemporary range of the Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii, shows that the contemporary status of its populations and forms can be described as threatened or endangered. Recently, the abundance of the nominal subspecies, A. b. baerii, which inhabits mainly the Ob River basin, decreased sharply.

Intersex gonad differentiation in cultured Russian (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii) and Siberian (Acipenser baerii) sturgeon.

Biology of reproduction, 2014
Among sturgeons, the occurrence of individuals with gonads containing both testis and ovary components is considered pathological, and such fish are described as intersex individuals or intersexes. Intersexes are observed in both wild and cultured populations of sturgeon, usually at low frequencies.

Controlled Reproduction of Farmed Siberian Sturgeon Acipenser baerii Brandt

2017
The present chapter is a synthesis of the available data related to the management of the reproduction of the Siberian sturgeon under farmed conditions. Some reproduction-related biological characteristics are briefly quoted. Preselection of potential brood fish is related in detail as well as pre-spawning holding regime with a focus on water ...

Echography for Siberian Sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) Brood Stock Management

2017
The lack of external sexual dimorphism in sturgeons, including Siberian sturgeon, had been hampering the brood stock establishment and caviar production for a long time. The development of noninvasive express techniques of echography diagnostics of Siberian sturgeon has allowed to optimize sex structure of the sturgeon brood stocks, and to increase ...

Effect of body weight on morphophysiological and slaughter characteristics in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii), Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii) and their hybrid (F1 A. baerii x A. gueldenstaedtii)

Agricultural Sciences
The study was carried out with sturgeon fish of different genotypes cultured in a large warm-water reservoir of an industrial cage farm located in southeastern Bulgaria. The study results indicated that the influence of body weight on more than morphological and slaugter characteristics was not unidirectional in fish of different genotypes.
