Prism Adaptation in Acquired Esotropia

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1992
To the Editor. —We read with great interest the article on prism adaptation in acquired esotropia by the Prism Adaptation Study Research Group 1 and would like to congratulate the research group on their report. The most outstanding feature of their article was that a classification system was agreed upon that distinguished orthotropic cases from ...

Acquired Accommodative Esotropia Following Overcorrection by Myopic Epikeratophakia

Cornea, 1990
Complications reported after epikeratophakia for high myopia include under- and overcorrection, glare, irregular astigmatism, delayed reepithelialization, and decrease in best-corrected visual acuity. Overcorrection may also result in anisometropia.

Neurological pathologies associated with acute acquired comitant esotropia

International Journal of Neuroscience, 2023
Previously reported cases of acute acquired comitant esotropia (AACE) with unknown etiologies have been reported in both children and adults. However, AACE can be associated with neurological disorders that require neuroimaging probes. The author recommends that clinicians should perform comprehensive neurological assessments to rule out neurological ...

Factors affecting postoperative stereopsis in acquired nonaccommodative esotropia

Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2012
To identify and examine factors that affect postoperative binocularity in children diagnosed with acquired nonaccommodative esotropia (ANAET).Retrospective chart review.Thirty-four pediatric patients who received surgery for ANAET by 1 surgeon (I.M.) at the Ivey Eye Institute, University of Western Ontario (London, Ont.).A multivariate logistic ...

[Acquired progressive esotropia and acquired strabismus fixus].

Nippon Ganka Gakkai zasshi, 1999
We previously reported on acquired convergent strabismus fixus and its incomplete type of esodeviation, which we named acquired progressive esotropia. In this study, we tried to confirm that the esotropia was acquired and progressive and to determine the most appropriate surgical procedure.Forty-three cases, 32 of acquired progressive esotropia and 11 ...

Preoperative prism correction in patients with acquired esotropia

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1993
We performed a prospective study of preoperative prism adaptation in 77 patients with acquired esotropia. Sixty-three of them increased their angle of squint when wearing Fresnel press-on prisms for 5-7 days. After the angle had stabilized to a point that did not exceed the press-on prisms by more than 10 prism D, they were randomly divided into two ...

Acquired Esotropia Due to Arnold-Chiari I Malformation

Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 1996
Diplopia is not frequently associated with Arnold-Chiari I malformation. We reviewed our cases of Arnold-Chiari I malformation in which acquired esotropia with diplopia was the main neuro-ophthalmologic finding early in the clinical course.Five patients were studied, all female, ranging in age from 17 to 36 years, who were treated by the neuro ...

[Acquired esotropia at advanced age].

Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde, 2006
Patients, most of whom are in their 8th decade of life, can suffer from a minimal acquired esotropia. They complain of blurred vision instead of diplopia due to their confusion. This is accompanied with the risk that the investigation covers only monocular disturbances.Of 39 such patients, 22 underwent surgery while 10 were fitted with prisms.

Prism Adaptation in Acquired Esotropia-Reply

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1992
In Reply. —The letter from Drs Lang and Heinrich raises an interesting question regarding results of the Prism Adaptation Study. Their observations are based in part on summary statistics from our article that are not ideally suited for answering their question.

Acute acquired comitant esotropia simulating late onset accommodative esotropia.

Journal of the American Optometric Association, 1988
Acute acquired comitant esotropia in the older child, adolescent, and young adult may represent uncorrected accommodative esotropia. Three young patients developed spontaneous diplopia associated with acute comitant esotropia. In all cases, cycloplegic refraction revealed high uncorrected hyperopia suggesting late onset accommodative esotropia. However,
