Efficacy and safety of zuranolone in Japanese adults with major depressive disorder: A double‐blind, randomized, placebo‐controlled, Phase 3 clinical trial

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, EarlyView.
Aim To evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral zuranolone for 14 days, compared with placebo, in Japanese patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods This multicenter, Phase 3 study was conducted in two parts (70 sites; Japan) including a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, parallel‐group part presented herein.

Ion channels: structural basis for function and disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Ion channels are ubiquitous proteins that mediate nervous and muscular function, rapid transmembrane signaling events, and ionic and fluid balance. The cloning of genes encoding ion channels has led to major strides in understanding the mechanistic basis

A Path to Implement Precision Child Health Cardiovascular Medicine. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Congenital heart defects (CHDs) affect approximately 1% of live births and are a major source of childhood morbidity and mortality even in countries with advanced healthcare systems. Along with phenotypic heterogeneity, the underlying etiology of CHDs is

Inhibitory effect of oestradiol on the cardiac KV7.1/KCNE1 channel is species dependent

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Oestradiol (17β‐E2) is reported to prolong the cardiac action potential duration and QT interval, in part by affecting cardiac ion channels. Previous studies found inhibiting 17β‐E2 effects on the repolarizating cardiac KV7.1/KCNE1 channel, or its native current, in heterologous expression systems or tissue from animal species.

Cardiac‐specific Kv1.1 deficiency alters cardiomyocyte electrophysiology without modifying overall cardiac function or arrhythmia susceptibility

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The leading cause of epilepsy‐related mortality is sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), resulting from seizure‐induced cardiorespiratory arrest by mechanisms that remain unresolved. Mutations in ion channel genes expressed in both brain and heart represent SUDEP risk factors because they can disrupt neural and cardiac rhythms ...

Phosphorylation and protonation of neighboring MiRP2 sites: function and pathophysiology of MiRP2-Kv3.4 potassium channels in periodic paralysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
MinK-related peptide 2 (MiRP2) and Kv3.4 subunits assemble in skeletal muscle to create subthreshold, voltage-gated potassium channels. MiRP2 acts on Kv3.4 to shift the voltage dependence of activation, speed recovery from inactivation, suppress ...

In silico modelling of multi‐electrode arrays for enhancing cardiac drug testing on hiPSC‐CM heterogeneous tissues

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Schematic overview of the experimental and computational framework for investigating hiPSC‐CM electrophysiology with MEA systems. The MEA‐based model integrates experimental data with phenotype‐specific ionic models and tissue‐level heterogeneity.

Congenital Long QT Syndrome: An Update and Present Perspective in Saudi Arabia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Primary cardiac arrhythmias are often caused by defects, predominantly in the genes responsible for generation of cardiac electrical potential, i.e., cardiac rhythm generation.
