Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Remote Cell Growth Sensing Using Self-Sustained Bio-Oscillations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A smart sensor system for cell culture real-time supervision is proposed, allowing for a significant reduction in human effort applied to this type of assay. The approach converts the cell culture under test into a suitable “biological” oscillator.

Audio and Video System for Mine Search and Rescue Robot Based on Linux

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2020
The audio and video system of mine search and rescue robot is designed based on the Linux. The system selects a 1/2.7 inch CMOS USB binocular camera, BH1750 light intensity acquisition and 850 nm infrared compensation light as the video acquisition ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Sensor Interface for Neurochemical Signal Acquisition [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE 62nd International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2019
This paper describes the design of an integrated sensor interface for neurochemical signal acquisition. Neurochemicals undergo oxidation and reduction reactions in the presence of an action potential. Thus, knowledge of the oxidation and reduction potentials of neurochemicals is important in the neurostimulation treatment of neurological and ...

Design of physiological data acquisition and processing system for underground personnel

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua, 2017
A design scheme of physiological data acquisition and processing system for underground personnel was proposed. Hardware design of data acquisition terminal, data acquisition and processing method and ZigBee data transmission design of the system were ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Mining coal-rock interface nodal GPR rapid dynamic detection system and experimental research

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
Coal-rock interface recognition technology is one of the key technologies for intelligent mining in coal mines. Based on high-frequency radar wave detection technology, high-precision detection of coal-rock interfaces can be achieved with mining, but ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Second language acquisition at the interfaces

open access: yesLingua, 2011
Abstract In recent research on L2 acquisition, there has been considerable emphasis on interfaces between the linguistic system and grammar external components, such as syntax/discourse, or between different modules of grammar, such as syntax/semantics, syntax/morphology or morphology/phonology. This has led to proposals that difficulties experienced
