Acrosome Reaction Measurement

2016
The peanut-agglutinin assay is used to assess the acrosomal status of sperm. This assay is an indicator of semen quality as male infertility may be caused by spermatozoa lacking intact acrosomes at ejaculation. Acrosomal status after induction of the acrosome reaction can be assessed by microscopy or flow cytometry with fluorescently labeled lectins ...

The Acrosome Reaction: A Historical Perspective

Advances in Anatomy, Embryology and Cell Biology, 2016
Acrosome reaction is often referred to as acrosomal exocytosis, but it differs significantly from normal exocytosis. While the vesicle membrane initially holding excreting molecules remains on the cell surface during exocytosis, the outer acrosomal membrane and plasma membrane are lost by forming vesicles during acrosome reaction.

Acrosome reaction in human spermatozoa

Fertility and Sterility, 1986
Human spermatozoa were allowed to undergo the acrosome reaction in vitro by incubation in media with or without reagents known to accelerate the onset of the acrosome reaction. The first observable change before the acrosome reaction was a partial decondensation of the acrosomal matrix. This was followed by invaginations of the outer acrosomal membrane
