Bile Acid Sequestrants Based on Natural and Synthetic Gels

open access: yesGels, 2023
Bile acid sequestrants (BASs) are non-systemic therapeutic agents used for the management of hypercholesterolemia. They are generally safe and not associated with serious systemic adverse effects.

Determination of protein binding affinities within hydrogel-based molecularly imprinted polymers (HydroMIPs) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Hydrogel-based molecularly imprinted polymers (HydroMIPs) were prepared for several proteins (haemoglobin, myoglobin and catalase) using a family of acrylamide-based monomers.

Copper mediated polymerization without external deoxygenation or oxygen scavengers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Overcoming the challenge of rigorous deoxygenation in copper mediated controlled radical polymerization processes (e.g. ATRP), we report a simple Cu(0)‐RDRP system in the absence of external additives (e.g. reducing agents, enzymes etc.).

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...
