Composite Anion-Exchange Membrane Fabricated by UV Cross-Linking Vinyl Imidazolium Poly(Phenylene Oxide) with Polyacrylamides and Their Testing for Use in Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Composite anion-exchange membranes (AEMs) consisting of a porous substrate and a vinyl imidazolium poly(phenylene oxide) (VIMPPO)/acrylamide copolymer layer were fabricated in a straightforward process, for use in redox flow batteries.

Polymerisation of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid sodium salt (NaAMPS) and acryloyl phosphatidylcholine (APC) via aqueous Cu(0)-mediated radical polymerisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The scope of aqueous Cu(0)-mediated living radical polymerisation has been expanded with the preparation of poly(2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid sodium salt (P(NaAMPS)) and poly(acryloyl phosphatidycholine) (PAPC). Manipulation of the reaction

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

3D‐Printed Porous Hydroxyapatite Formed via Enzymatic Mineralization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bone combines lightness, strength, and the ability to heal, inspiring new materials design. This work introduces a room‐temperature, enzyme‐mediated 3D printing method to create porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds. The process avoids energy‐intensive sintering, preserves bioactivity, and allows control over porosity and mineralization.

In Situ 3D Bioprinting: Impact of Cross‐Linking on the Adhesive Properties of Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ 3D bioprinting enables the direct deposition of cell‐laden, adhesive biomaterials for on‐site tissue regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive overview of how cross‐linking influences the bioadhesive properties of hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting, highlighting cross‐linking triggers, bioadhesion mechanisms, polymer interpenetration ...

High molar mass segmented macromolecular architectures by nitroxide mediated polymerisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A straightforward synthetic pathway based on nitroxide mediated polymerisation (NMP) for the synthesis of a variety of high molar mass segmented copolymers comprising both polystyrene (PS) and polyether segments is reported.

Sensorized Engineered Tissues with Built‐in Thermoregulation and Nutrient Supply

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a granular hydrogel‐based tissue engineering platform that includes a closed‐loop temperature control to maintain 37°C and sustainably releases nutrients, thereby enabling cells to retain a high viability even if stored at room temperature for up to 24 h.

Adaptive Hydrogels With Spatiotemporal Stiffening Using pH‐Modulating Enzymes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The chemomechanical coupling in an adaptive hydrogel is studied to further the development of adaptive hydrogels. This coupling is achieved by embedding a pH‐modulating enzyme in a pH‐responsive hydrogel. The enzymatic reaction can be triggered locally, which generates a pH‐decreasing wave throughout the system, increasing the crosslinking density and ...

Synthesis, Characterization, and Antibacterial Activity Evaluation of Some New Benzoxazepindiones Obtained from Diphenylacrylimidamides [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
This study reports the synthesis of new 1,3-oxazepine derivatives (S21-S30) by reacting hydrazones (Schiff bases) (S11-S20) with phthalic anhydride in dry benzene as the solvent.

Palladium-Catalyzed Oxidation of β-C(sp3)-H Bonds of Primary Alkylamines through a Rare Four-Membered Palladacycle Intermediate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Site-selective functionalizations of C-H bonds are often achieved with a directing group that leads to five- or six-membered metallacyclic intermediates. Analogous reactions that occur through four-membered metallacycles are rare. We report a challenging
