Clinical profile and treatment of infantile spasms using vigabatrin and ACTH - a developing country perspective

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2010
BackgroundInfantile spasms represent a serious epileptic syndrome that occurs in the early infantile age. ACTH and Vigabatrin are actively investigated drugs in its treatment.

Clock gene dysregulation in epilepsy: A systematic review

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Epileptic seizures show a rhythmic pattern, being more frequent at particular times of the day (e.g., only occurring during sleep), suggesting a role of the circadian rhythm. Clock genes regulate the circadian rhythm and might be involved in the pathophysiology of epilepsy.

Apolipoprotein M [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Apolipoprotein M (apoM) is a 26-kDa protein that is mainly associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in human plasma, with a small proportion present in triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TGRLP) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL).

CORRECTION OF CYTOKINE AND HORMONAL IMBALANCE IN THE TREATMENT OF ANGINA PECTORIS

open access: yesКубанский научный медицинский вестник, 2018
Aim. To evaluate the dynamics of cytokine status (IL-1ß, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10) and hormonal profile (cortisol, ACTH, β-endorphins) in patients with stable angina II-III functional class in the course of standard treatment and combined use of TES-therapy ...

Distinctive genetic architecture of infantile epileptic spasms syndrome compared to self‐limited infantile epilepsy by trios whole‐exome sequencing

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) and self‐limited infantile epilepsy (SeLIE) are both genetically heterogeneous disorders during infancy with distinct prognoses. To better define the genetic spectrum of IESS, we performed a comparative genetic analysis using SeLIE cases as a reference group. Methods We performed whole‐exome

Clinical Implications of Ki‐67 Index, Grade and Hormonal Changes in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors: Insights Into Tumor Heterogeneity Based on Primary and Secondary Lesions

open access: yesJournal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) show heterogeneity, including temporal shifts in proliferation and hormone production; however, their clinical implications remain uncertain. Methods This retrospective study included 114 patients with metastatic or recurrent PanNETs at Kyushu University Hospital.

Genetic regulation of pituitary gland development in human and mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Normal hypothalamopituitary development is closely related to that of the forebrain and is dependent upon a complex genetic cascade of transcription factors and signaling molecules that may be either intrinsic or extrinsic to the developing Rathke’s ...

Effects of testosterone and high‐dose anabolic steroids on orthodontic‐induced bone remodeling and root resorption: An animal study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigates the impact of disruptions in testosterone levels on bone remodeling, root resorption, and periodontal ligament (PDL) during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in a pubertal male rat model. Methods Testosterone deficiency was induced through orchiectomy, and the anabolic‐androgenic steroid (AAS, testosterone ...

Influence of mirtazapine on salivary cortisol in depressed patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Unlike other antidepressants, mirtazapine does not inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine or serotonin but acts as an antagonist at presynaptic alpha(2)-receptors, at postsynaptic 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors, and at histaminergic H1 receptors. Furthermore,

The effect of MDMA on anterior pituitary hormones: a secondary analysis of a randomized placebo-controlled trial

open access: yesEndocrine Connections
Background: 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a psychoactive substance, has been proposed as a novel provocation test for oxytocin deficiency. Limited evidence suggests that MDMA may also stimulate the anterior pituitary. Therefore, this analysis
