An actin-like protein from amoebae of Dictyostelium discoideum
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1972An actin-like protein has been isolated and purified from amoebae of Dictyostelium discoideum. The 3.7S protein polymerizes upon addition of 0.1 m KCl to a polymer of 26S. An increase in viscosity accompanies this polymerization and electron micrographs have revealed beaded, helical filaments with a diameter of 60–75 A and an axial periodicity of 350 A.

Interaction between actin-like brain protein and isolated synaptic vesicles
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1979Mg-ATP was shown to increase the light diffusion of a suspension of rat brain synaptic vesicles (SV) in the presence of rat brain actin-like protein (ALP) (superprecipitation reaction). ALP increases the Mg-ATPase activity of SV and also the liberation of endogenous noradrenalin from SV of bovine hypothalamus, which is abolished by cytochalasin B ...

Immunochemical identification of an actin-like protein from soybean seedlings
Nature, 1980Microfilaments are recognised as ubiquitous cytoskeletal and contractile elements found in virtually all types of cells. Indeed, the major protein component of these fibrillar structures, actin, has been isolated from a variety of cells1–5. A number of laboratories have recently reported ultrastructural observations of microfilaments in plant cells ...

Isolation and characterization of a cDNA encoding a chicken actin-like protein
Gene, 1995We report the isolation and characterization of a chicken cDNA which putatively encodes an actin-like protein (chACTL). This 394-amino-acid (aa) polypeptide shares sequence homology (81, 70 and 67% identical aa, respectively) with three actin-related proteins (ARP) described for Drosophila melanogaster (ARP14D), Caenorhabditis elegans (ACTL) and ...

Actin-like contractile protein in carbon tetrachloride-induced cirrhosis in the rat
Pathology, 1977Cryostat sections of livers from rats treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) for 12 weeks were examined by indirect immunofluorescence for reactivity with human serum containing smooth muscle antibody (SMA). Increased binding of SMA serum to hepatocytes was observed as early as the first week of CCl4 treatment and remained enhanced during the 12 ...

The characterization and phosphorylation of an actin-like protein in synaptosomal membranes
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1980A protein of 43,000 daltons, named protein 'C', is a component of synaptosomal plasma membranes, vesicular and microsomal membranes, as well as synaptosomal and cellular cytoplasm. Protein 'C' undergoes endogeneous phosphorylation in synaptosomal plasma membranes but not in other subcellular fractions.

Immunofluorescence studies on localization of actin-like protein in the mouse brain
Acta Neuropathologica, 1978Localization of actin-like protein in the mouse brain was studied by the immunofluorescence method using FITC-labeled antiactin antibody. Antibody against actin was prepared according to Lazarides (1974). The problem of poor antigenicity and the presence of contaminants in the antigen preparation was circumvented by way of denaturation of the protein ...

[Luminescence characteristics of mitochondrial actin-like protein].
Biofizika, 1986Investigations comparing tryptophan fluorescence of mitochondrial actin-like protein with that of skeletal and smooth muscle actins have shown that the mitochondrial protein is characterized by a fluorescence spectrum peak at a longer wavelength (337 nm), by a certain broadening of this peak (56 nm) and by a reduction in the lifespan of the excited ...

Functional characterisation of Plasmodium actin-like proteins Alp1 and Alp2b
Malaria, the disease caused by Plasmodium parasites transmitted via Anopheles mosquitoes, remains a significant global health threat, responsible for over 600,000 deaths annually. The current treatments are constrained by inefficacy and the spread of drug resistance, which highlights the necessity for alternative strategies to prevent parasite ...Kobayashi, Yukino +1 more

[Isolation and characteristics of actin-like proteins in liver mitochondria].
Biokhimiia (Moscow, Russia), 1985Using affinity chromatography on DNAase I-Sepharose, an actin-like protein was isolated from rat liver mitochondria and purified 60-fold. SDS electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel revealed that the protein migrated with muscle actin and thus had the molecular weight of 42 000 Da.
