Analysis of the interactions of actin depolymerizing factor with G- and F-actin
Biochemistry, 1993Chick actin depolymerizing factor (ADF) is an actin binding protein previously shown to rapidly depolymerize actin filaments in vitro, yielding a 1:1 complex of ADF and actin monomer. Here we show that ADF protects actin monomer from denaturation by EDTA by inhibiting the exchange of actin-bound nucleotide.

The actin-depolymerizing factor destrin has an actin-stabilizing domain
Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 2001Destrin is a 19 kDa actin-depolymerizing protein of the ADFcofilin family. Destrin was digested with trypsin to a structurally stable 9.2 kDa fragment that contains the actin-binding sequence. Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1996Cadmium exposure produces depolymerization of the actin cytoskeleton in several cultured cell lines, and we have previously shown that in renal mesangial cells this effect is caused by picomolar concentrations of cytosolic Cd2+. The present study was undertaken to explore further the basis of this action of Cd2+.

Human actin depolymerizing factor mediates a pH-sensitive destruction of actin filaments
Biochemistry, 1993ADF (actin depolymerizing factor) is an M(r) 19,000 actin-binding protein present in many vertebrate tissues and particularly abundant in neuronal cells. We have cloned human ADF and here show it to be identical in sequence to porcine destrin. Human ADF expressed in Escherichia coli behaves like native ADF from porcine brain.
