Insects interact with plants not only for nutrition but also to actively seek plant specialized metabolites (PSMs) for chemical defense, reproduction, and self‐medication—a behavior known as pharmacophagy. This review examines how insects across diverse orders acquire PSMs from both food and non‐food plants for non‐nutritional benefits.

Pharmacophagy in green lacewings (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae: Chrysopa spp.)? [PDF]
Green lacewings (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) are voracious predators of aphids and other small, soft-bodied insects and mites. Earlier, we identified (1R,2S,5R,8R)-iridodial from wild males of the goldeneyed lacewing, Chrysopa oculata Say, which is released

Plant order‐level Sankey plot illustrating plant use of ethnolinguistic groups for key disease types based on organ systems and use. Each node represents the strength of its interaction or usage. ABSTRACT Many human populations rely on natural remedies for health and healing, with traditional medicinal plants playing a vital role in diverse ...

Review of larval food plant associations of the Agaristinae (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in Australia
Abstract The Australian Agaristinae comprises a small group of predominantly diurnal moths with aposematic larvae and adults that are assumed to be unpalatable to most predators. A critical review of the larval food plants of this subfamily based on published records in the literature, together with unpublished records, is presented.

Community Characteristics and Population Dynamics of an Endangered Rhododendron nymphaeoides
Rhododendron nymphaeoides is explicitly listed as an endangered species in the “the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List,” “The Red List of Rhododendrons,” “Red List of China's Higher Plants,” and “Threatened Species List of China's Higher Plants.” It is also listed as a provincial‐level key protected wild plant in Sichuan, with ...

Chromatin Topological Domains Associate With the Rapid Formation of Tandem Duplicates in Plants
A collection of Hi‐C matrices across the plant kingdom confirms the interrelation between large‐scale chromosome conformation and species genome size. At a finer level, tandem duplicate gene clusters preferentially fold into topologically associating domains (TADs) in an evolutionarily conserved manner.

Synergistic defensive function of raphides and protease through the needle effect.
Raphides, needle-shaped calcium oxalate crystals in tissues of many plants, have been thought to play defensive roles against herbivores without detailed bioassays for their defensive roles and modes of function using purified raphides.
