Genetic prodrug activation therapy
The Lancet, 1997Genetic prodrug activation therapy shows promise as a therapeutic option for the treatment of cancer as well as a variety of other diseases. It involves the insertion of a gene encoding a drug-metabolizing enzyme into cells and the systemic administration of a prodrug. The prodrug is converted to a cytotoxic agent by the action of the expressed enzyme.

Novel insights into the complex architecture of osteoporosis molecular genetics
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2020Osteoporosis is a prevalent osteodegenerative disease and silent killer linked to a decrease in bone mass and decline of bone microarchitecture, due to impaired bone matrix mineralization, raising the risk of fracture.

BioEssays, 2022
AbstractClustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)‐based “active genetic” elements developed in 2015 bypassed the fundamental rules of traditional genetics. Inherited in a super‐Mendelian fashion, such selfish genetic entities offered a variety of potential applications including: gene‐drives to disseminate gene cassettes ...

Genetically encoded neural activity indicators
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 2012Recording activity from identified populations of neurons is a central goal of neuroscience. Changes in membrane depolarization, particularly action potentials, are the most important features of neural physiology to extract, although ions, neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, second messengers, and the activation state of specific proteins are also ...

Genetic activity of allyl chloride
Mutation Research/Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1978Allyl chloride (3-chloroprene) is mutagenic for Salmonella typhimurium and it induces gene conversions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It also displays DNA-modifying activity for E. coli. This is in contrast to a recent study which reported its lack of genetic activity for Salmonella typhimurium.

The Genetics of Physical Activity
Current Cardiology Reports, 2017Physical activity (PA) is a well-established modifiable lifestyle determinant for multiple cardio-metabolic outcomes. While many psychosocial and environmental correlates of PA have been identified, current understanding of the genetic architecture that contributes to PA is still very limited, especially when compared to other phenotypes such as ...

The genetics of macrophage activation syndrome
Genes & Immunity, 2020Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), or secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), is a cytokine storm syndrome associated with multi-organ system dysfunction and high mortality rates. Laboratory and clinical features resemble primary HLH, which arises in infancy (1 in 50,000 live births) from homozygous mutations in various genes critical to

Genetic Factors in Activity Motivation
Child Development, 1966A study of 61 pairs of identical (MZ) and fraternal (DZ) grade-school twin girls found moderate genetic contributions to individual differences in several aspects of activity motivation: reaction time, variety of activity, anxiety, and impatience. Activity motivation was defined by empirical clusters of related measures including ratings, experimental ...

Genetic epidemiology of induced CYP3A4 activity
Pharmacogenetics and Genomics, 2011The cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme is implicated in the metabolism of more than 50% of all prescribed medications and its activity - including induced or inhibited activity - is deemed to be a crucial determinant of interindividual variability in drug disposition, poor therapeutic efficacy, and adverse response to medication. We used the classical ...
