Scaling Regimes of Active Turbulence with External Dissipation

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
Active fluids exhibit complex turbulentlike flows at low Reynolds number. Recent work predicted that 2D active nematic turbulence follows scaling laws with universal exponents.

Liquid crystal based active electrocaloric regenerator

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
The active electrocaloric (EC) regenerator exploiting electric conversion into thermal energy has recently become important for developing a new generation of heat-management devices. We analyze an active EC regenerator numerically.

New‐Era Polymer Thermoelectrics: Material Innovations, Doping Frontiers, Decoupling Strategies, and Unconventional Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The field of polymer thermoelectrics is entering a new era, featuring breakthroughs in addressing the conventional performance disparity between p‐type and n‐type polymers, pioneering doping frontiers, and sophisticated decoupling strategies. This review explores innovations in molecular design and superior stabilities, bridging the gap from ...

Vectorial active matter on the lattice: polar condensates and nematic filaments

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
We introduce a novel lattice-gas cellular automaton (LGCA) for compressible vectorial active matter with polar and nematic velocity alignment. Interactions are, by construction, zero-range.

Rheology of Active Filament Solutions

open access: yes, 2006
We study the viscoelasticity of an active solution of polar biofilaments and motor proteins. Using a molecular model, we derive the constitutive equations for the stress tensor in the isotropic phase and in phases with liquid crystalline order.

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Active nematic gel with quenched disorder

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2022
With quenched disorder, we introduce two-dimensional active nematics suspended in an incompressible fluid. We write the coarse-grained hydrodynamic equations of motion for slow variables, viz. density, orientation and flow fields. The quenched disorder is introduced such that it interacts with the local orientation at every point with some strength ...

Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Order-disorder transition in active nematic: A lattice model study

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
We introduce a lattice model for active nematic composed of self-propelled apolar particles, study its different ordering states in the density-temperature parameter space, and compare with the corresponding equilibrium model.
