Identification of novel genes regulating the development of the palate
Abstract Background The International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) has generated thousands of knockout mouse lines, many of which exhibit embryonic or perinatal lethality. Using micro‐computed tomography (micro‐CT), the IMPC has created and publicly released three‐dimensional image data sets of embryos from these lethal and subviable lines.

Xwnt-5A: a maternal Wnt that affects morphogenetic movements after overexpression in embryos of Xenopus laevis [PDF]
To contribute to an understanding of the roles and mechanisms of action of Wnts in early vertebrate development, we have characterized the normal expression of Xenopus laevis Wnt-5A, and investigated the consequences of misexpression of this putative ...

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

15-Deoxy-Δ12,14-prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) and activin are implicated in the control of apoptosis, cell proliferation, and inflammation in cells. We examined both the mechanism by which 15d-PGJ2 regulates the transcription of activin-induced activin ...

Multi-Cancer Computational Analysis Reveals Metastasis-Associated Variant of Desmoplastic Reaction Involving INHBA and THBS2 [PDF]
Despite extensive research, the details of the metastasis-associated biological mechanisms are largely unknown. Here, we analyze data from multiple cancers using a novel computational method identifying sets of genes whose coordinated overexpression ...

Activins and their related proteins in colon carcinogenesis: insights from early and advanced azoxymethane rat models of colon cancer [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Activin-A may exert pro- or anti-tumorigenic activities depending on cellular context. However, little is known about its role, or the other mature activin proteins, in colorectal carcinoma (CRC). This study measured the expression of activin

Activin A and activin receptors in gestational tissue from preeclamptic pregnancies [PDF]
Maternal serum activin A levels are elevated in women with preeclampsia. To explore whether this could be due, at least in part, to increased production by the gestational tissues, we have measured activin A in the serum of women with (n=23) or without preeclampsia (n=62) at 29-40 weeks of gestation and in placenta and fetal membranes from preterm ...

Microarray Analysis of PBMC after Plasmodium falciparum Infection: Molecular Insights into Disease Pathogenesis [PDF]
Our laboratory’s previous microarray analysis of subjects with Plasmodium falciparum revealed up-regulation of Toll-like receptor, NF-kB, TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, p38 MAPK, and MHC molecules.
