Acute flaccid myelitis is a disease that affects the anterior horn cells of the spinal cord, leading to rapid onset of flaccid paralysis. Recent biennial epidemics, beginning in the summer of 2014, have been associated with enterovirus D68, although the underlying pathophysiology is unknown.
