Enterovirus infection and acute flaccid myelitis
Current Opinion in Virology, 2020Recent outbreaks of limb paralysis similar to poliomyelitis, termed acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), have prompted intense investigation into potential etiology. Peaks of AFM were seen in the United States in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, coincident with peaks in enterovirus transmission, particularly EV-D68.

Acute Flaccid Myelitis: A Clinical Review
Seminars in Neurology, 2020AbstractAcute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is an emerging disorder primarily affecting children that is characterized by acute flaccid paralysis accompanied by abnormalities of the spinal cord gray matter on magnetic resonance imaging. In most cases, prodromal fever or respiratory symptoms occur, followed by acute-onset flaccid limb weakness.

Evolving Features of Acute Flaccid Myelitis After COVID-19: A Four-Case Series.
Pediatric NeurologyBACKGROUND Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is a rare, polio-like illness typically affecting children, often preceded by a viral prodrome and characterized by asymmetric flaccid paralysis.

Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is a polio-like syndrome characterized by acute inflammatory anterior horn cell disease. A widespread incidence of such cases in the United States in 2014 led to the coining of this new term. The features of AFM include a rapid onset of asymmetric extremity weakness with a proximal predominance that nadirs in 2–3 days ...

Acute Flaccid Myelitis With Human Rhinovirus A19 Detection: Case Report and Literature Review.
The Pediatric Infectious Disease JournalHuman rhinovirus (HRV) has been sporadically detected in patients with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM). We report a case of AFM in a 2-year-old boy with severe neurologic sequelae, whose nasopharyngeal and stool samples tested positive for HRV-A19. Clinical
