Predicting Early Mortality of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Score-Based Approach

open access: yesStroke, 2019
Background and Purpose— Several risk factors are known to increase mid- and long-term mortality of ischemic stroke patients. Information on predictors of early stroke mortality is scarce but often requested in clinical practice.

Relationship of national institutes of health stroke scale to 30-day mortality in medicare beneficiaries with acute ischemic stroke. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BackgroundThe National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), a well-validated tool for assessing initial stroke severity, has previously been shown to be associated with mortality in acute ischemic stroke.

Neuropsychological and neuroimaging assessments of early cognitive impairment in patients after mild ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Neuroscience, 2020
This study aimed to identify markers of early cognitive impairment after acute mild ischemic cerebrovascular disease. To further explore the relationship between neuroimaging markers of vascular and neurodegenerative injuries and post-stroke cognitive ...

Effect of Interhospital Transfer on Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesStroke, 2019
Background and Purpose— To assess the effect of inter-hospital transfer on time to treatment and functional outcome after endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke, we compared patients transferred from a primary stroke center to patients ...

HSP70 governs permeability and mechanotransduction in primary human endothelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HSP70 chemical inhibition reduces endothelial cell proliferation and increases permeability, the latter supported by normal interendothelial junctional protein distribution. HSP70 also plays a role in shear stress response, a hemodynamic force naturally present in blood vessels and correlated with vessel protection.

The association between vitamin D and restless legs syndrome following acute ischemic stroke

open access: yesScientific Reports
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and acute ischemic stroke are prevalent conditions in neurology. Several studies have indicated a relationship between RLS, acute ischemic stroke, and vitamin D levels.

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...
