More on Acyclovir for Chickenpox
New England Journal of Medicine, 1994To the Editor: Dunkle et al. (Nov. 28, 1991, issue)1 reported that treatment with acyclovir reduces the duration and severity of chickenpox in normal children when therapy is begun during the first 24 hours after the appearance of rash. The effect of acyclovir treatment on susceptibility to recurrent or reactivated varicella-zoster virus infection is ...

Polymorphism and pseudopolymorphism of acyclovir
Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2008Four crystal modifications of acyclovir were isolated by recrystallization and characterized by powder X-ray diffractometry, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. It was confirmed that Form 3 is a hydrate and Form 4 is an acetic acid solvate. The dissolution patterns of three crystal forms of acyclovir were studied in water

Acyclovir tolerance has been explored in a broad range of human populations and dosage regimens with intravenous, topical, and oral formulations. Phase I pharmacokinetic/tolerance studies assured safety in special populations at unique risk of complicated herpes infections who were simultaneously at increased risk of toxicity to anti-DNA ...

Abstract In a double-blind randomised trial patients with acute herpes zoster received either 5 mg/kg acyclovir (27) or placebo (29) intravenously three times daily. Acyclovir significantly improved the rate of healing of the skin lesions and shortened the period of pain in the acute phase of zoster.

The use of acyclovir in children
The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 1984Acyclovir represents a significant advance in the treatment of herpes simplex and varicella zoster virus infections and appears to be safe and well-tolerated. Physicians now have several drugs to choose from in the treatment of these infections. Hopefully there will be other antiviral chemotherapeutic agents that will be effective for therapy of ...
