Endoplasmic reticulum involvement in yeast cell death [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Yeast cells undergo programed cell death (PCD) with characteristic markers associated with apoptosis in mammalian cells including chromatin breakage, nuclear fragmentation, reactive oxygen species generation, and metacaspase activation.

The Structure and Function of Acylglycerophosphate Acyltransferase 4/ Lysophosphatidic Acid Acyltransferase Delta (AGPAT4/LPAATδ) [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2019
Lipid-modifying enzymes serve crucial roles in cellular processes such as signal transduction (producing lipid-derived second messengers), intracellular membrane transport (facilitating membrane remodeling needed for membrane fusion/fission), and protein clustering (organizing lipid domains as anchoring platforms).

Lactylation of HMGB1 at K177 Drives Nuclear Export of TIAR to Promote Hypoxia‐Induced Stress Granule Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a novel mechanism in which p300‑catalyzed lactylation of HMGB1 triggers nuclear export of the HMGB1‐TIAR complex, driving TIAR‐dependent SGs formation in the cytoplasm. Mass spectrometry and mutagenesis reveals that K177 lactylation is essential for this export and subsequent SGs formation.

RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease. Abstract Background and Aims Receptor‐interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) mediates NAFLD progression, but its metabolic function is unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of RIPK3 in modulating mitochondria function, coupled with lipid droplet (LD)

Increasing cocoa butter-like lipid production of Saccharomyces cerevisiae by expression of selected cocoa genes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cocoa butter (CB) extracted from cocoa beans mainly consists of three different kinds of triacylglycerols (TAGs), 1,3-dipalmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycerol (POP, C16:0–C18:1–C16:0), 1-palmitoyl-3-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-glycerol (POS, C16:0–C18:1–C18:0) and 1,3 ...

Acidosis Forces Fatty Acid Uptake and Metabolism in Cancer Cells Regardless of Genotype

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that biological acidosis, commonly observed in tumors and ischemic conditions, actively promotes the protonation of fatty acids, thereby facilitating the uptake of their neutral forms. Consequently, the preference for lipid metabolism in acid‐exposed cells does not arise from genetic reprogramming that prioritizes lipids as the ...

Interleukin‐18 signaling promotes activation of hepatic stellate cells in mouse liver fibrosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Interleukin‐18 signaling promotes activation of hepatic stellate cells in mouse liver fibrosis. Abstract Background and Aims Nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain‐like receptor‐family pyrin domain‐containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation has been shown to result in liver fibrosis.

Comprehensive Genetic Map of Muscle Lipidome Reveals Novel Insights Into Flavor Variation in Ruminant Meat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ruminant meat is widely appreciated for its distinctive flavor. Lipids play a central role in influencing meat flavor, yet their genetic and biochemical basis remains largely unexplored. Here, a comprehensive lipid genetic map of sheep muscle is constructed and 20 candidate genes potentially modulating lipid levels are identified to provide a roadmap ...

CD8+ T cell memory is sustained in mice by hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
HSC role in memory CD8+ T cell maintenance. Abstract Background and Aims Long‐lasting immunological memory is the ultimate goal of vaccination. Homeostatic maintenance of memory CD8+ cytotoxic T cells (MemCD8TCs) is thought to be mediated by IL‐15/IL‐15R heterodimer (15HD)‐expressing myeloid cells.
