Morality, Adapted [PDF]

open access: yesPerspectives in Biology and Medicine, 2010
Over the last few decades, scientists have been busy debunking the myth that nonhuman animals relate to each other in a primarily competitive, aggressive way. What they have found is that many species of animal, including many of those most closely related to humans, display a remarkable range of cooperative, "prosocial" behavior.

OceanLSTM: xLSTM with spatial attention for salt spray formation and migration prediction in marine hot-humid environments

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
IntroductionSalt spray formation and migration in hot and humid marine environments have a significant impact on marine engineering and equipment maintenance. Accurately predicting these phenomena is crucial for reducing corrosion damage.

Evaluation of a personalized digital library based on cognitive styles: Adaptivity vs. adaptability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Personalization can be addressed by adaptability and adaptivity, which have different advantages and disadvantages. This study investigates how digital library users react to these two techniques.

A model of downward abusive communication: exploring relationships between cognitive complexity, downward communicative adaptability, and downward abusive communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Thesis (M.A.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2013A model was proposed to understand the antecedents of abusive supervision. Relationships were explored between cognitive complexity, downward communicative adaptability, and downward abusive communication.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Academic Librarianship and Career Adaptability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The inspiration for this essay is Barbara Fister’s assertion that librarians must embrace functions that have not traditionally been part of the academic librarian’s portfolio.

Speed and Adaptability of Overlap Fermion Algorithms

open access: yes, 2003
We compare the efficiency of four different algorithms to compute the overlap Dirac operator, both for the speed, i.e., time required to reach a desired numerical accuracy, and for the adaptability, i.e., the scaling of speed with the condition number of

Adaptability: Does Students’ Adjustment to University Predict Their Mid-Course Academic Achievement and Satisfaction? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Individual differences in ‘adaptability’–cognitive, behavioural, and emotional adjustment in the face of change, novelty, and uncertainty–are theorised to influence students’ academic achievement and course satisfaction; although the literature examining

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
